Is this a good idea?

I have been reading all of the tips on eating breakfast in the room and considered all of my options. Based on what I have read here on the boards, I decided that it would be best for my family to ship our items to the resort before I got there.

Ok, so I packed my box, but then I noticed an empty suitcase and since some recommend taking an empty suitcase to bring back souvenirs, I thought why not pack our snacks in the empty suitcase and that way I save the shipping costs.

I realize that my luggage will be tossed around like lettuce handled by a chef, but if I pack the dry goods in the suitcase the same as packing the box (with crumbled newspaper), what could be the harm? I weighed the suitcase and it meets the weight requirements.

Am I missing something? I don't fly a lot, so this could be the dumbest idea posted on the boards!!!!! :confused3

I ship a box ahead of time so I can send mini boxes of cereal, fruit snacks, plastic bowls, etc. I also ship little tinkerbelle gifts that are mysteriously left on their bed while we are at the park during the day.

If I didn't do that, I would bring a suitcase too! It's a GREAT idea!

It's not a dumb question or idea at all!

Hi:

We do this all the time! We pack items such as cereal, Nutri Grain bars, microwave popcorn, coffee, filters, etc. in an "extra" suitcase. It has always worked for us! Hope this helps! :earsgirl:

I realize that my luggage will be tossed around like lettuce handled by a chef,

And so will your box when you fedex or UPS it down there. I think you will appreciate having the empty suitcase when you get down there.

Good idea!

Last year I sent a box. Like you I decided to use a suitcase this year. I was thinking of taking cereal, chips and bagels in my carry on. We are packing our swimsuits in our carry ons too. I hear people are waiting a long time to get there luggage from ME.

Last year I packed a suitcase with just snacks-chips, granola bars, crackers.
Everything was in great shape when I opened the suitcase & as we ate the
snacks we had an empty suitcase for ALL the disney goodies (beverage mugs, etc) to bring home. It worked great for us. :cool1:

I don't send a box down, but I do pack:

Rice Crispies
Fruity Pebbles
Ritz Crackers
Peanuts
Nutri-grain bars
Pop Tarts
Oatmeal
ketchup
syrup
peanut butter
jam
potato chips
graham crackers
tea bags
Splenda
Cookies

I love the fact that all this takes up space in my luggage, which gives me a lot of room for souvies. :teeth:

We are also taking a suit case of food. Love all the ideas. One thing we've added is lots of beef jerky to snack on.

Has anyone traveled with canned Cokes in you luggage? Did they survive the trip without exploding?

Thanks!

I have heard of people doing it, but I would worry about them exploding. They also add alot of weight to your bags. The airlines are really cracking down on the weight of the luggage. I would not want to risk it either way.

Liking the idea of the extra suitcase. I was wondering if you can successfully take bottles of water in them? I would actually divy up a case amongst the 4 of us. Do you think they would explode? I bought these ridiculously large suitcases about 2 months ago at Sears that will be big enough for ALL the clothes the kids own, so I may not need an extra one.

Any thoughts on the water? :confused3

ONLY 13 more days!!! :cheer2:  :cheer2:  :cheer2:

We used a similar plan last year. We packed the suitcase and did include bottle water-we actually stuck it inside our shoes so it wouldnt roll around or get stuck through the bag-worked great and we'll do it again :wave2:

I have packed canned soda in my suitcase on the way back from a trip cos I didnt want to waste it. Once one of the cans leaked but it cold have been just from moving around and getting caught on something. Another time cans did not leak. Water makes it through fine.

Anybody got any other ideas for unique snacks?

On the way down in January, we put an entire case of water in our "souvenir" duffle bag that we usually just fold in one of our suitcases. They did ask why it was so heavy and we explained. No problems though and it did save a fortune in the parks. None of the bottle leaks.

You could also rent an el cheapo car ( I believe D&S have a renatl agency on site but I may be wrong) and make a quick trip to town and stock up on food.

That way you could buy some perishables and other things you may have not packed. It may cost a few bucks more to rent the car, but at least you have the option.

My 2 cents.

I've been using a suitcase to transport food for several years now, and it works really well! Then at the end of your trip, you have extra room for souvenirs, etc.

Usually I send a box down but this year I think I will try putting our snacks in a suitcase. I really like the idea of being able to bring home our souvenirs in th extra bag.

I do think I read somewhere that food items may trigger sensors and that the bags ar emor elikely to be searched. Anyone else hear this?

I am all set with Wegoshop to deliver drinks etc to our resort. Sounds like a good plan. :)
