DH JUST started listing cars on Craigslist for the dealership he works for and received the following email through Craigslist. Is it a scam? It's not asking for any account numbers. Can he assume that as long as the dealership waits for the cashier's check to clear it wouldn't pose a problem?

Hello,

Am interested in the item you advertised because i like the
condition you stated about it and I would like to make an outright
purchase immediately so i would want you withdraw the advert from the
web.
Regarding the payment term,I can only for now pay you with a
certified check in U.S dollars so pls let me have the following
informations so that the payment can be made to you :
.Your full name to be on the check.
2.Your postal address.
3.Your postal code
4.Your mobile phone number (For easier comunications).
Kindly get me the above requested information as soon as
possible.Concerning the shippment,it is my regular shipper that will
come for the pick up as soon as you recieve your money in hands.

Thanks in Advance.

Regards

Yes, absolutely it's a scammer. The poor grammar and spelling errors are a giveaway, as is the request to withdraw the ad from craigslist. If you search around a bit on craigslist re: scams you will find this same response almost word for word.

It's a scam. They always start with saying they are intersed in the "Item" you are selling. If you emailed them back to confirm they want the 3 legged deaf elephant with urinary incontinence, they would say yes and ask you where to send the check ASAP.

The way this generally works is that the "certified check" will be for an amount larger than the purchase price of the vehicle, and the seller is supposed to return the difference to the buyer. Sometime after this happens (on the rare occasion that it does) the seller will find out that the check was forged, and is then out the money (and the product if they shipped it.)

OP- do that! I'd love to see what they write back, if they do that is.

it is a scam we got the same email - I did not feel comfortable at all and told dh NOT to do what he asked - he wrote him about doing our way and he never responded back.

That's HYSTERICAL. I'll see if DH will do it and let you know the outcome.

Thanks for your quick and informative responses!

don't be suprised if you e-mail them back and you suddenly start getting all kinds of spam e-mails.

I keep a netzero account for publication on places like that to be safe. actually any web base e-mail address that is not your "home" e-mail would be a smart way to go.
