We are considering visiting either Disney or Universal right before Christmas. My dd is interested in Universal because of Harry Potter but I am worried about my dd who is almost 7. Will there be enough to interest her in the parks or will she be waiting around most of the time while we do the child swap? Thanks for any input you can give.

Can you tell us what kind of things she likes at Disney? We can tell you what there is in a similar vein at Universal.

We went with the 7 year old daughter of my friend in the summer and she went on most rides at IoA and US. However she is not typical as she rode all the rides at Disney and Universal that she was tall enough for. It was her Mother who sat out some of the rides :rotfl:

At IoA she loved the play areas (see the IoA website) we made sure she had time to play and enjoy the areas designed for younger ones to make up for not being able to ride FJ. She liked the following rides/show:
The Cat In The Hat
One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish
The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man
The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride
Sinbad Show
Flight of the Hippogriff (more than once)

At US she did:
ET
Disaster
Shrek 4D
Simpsons
Jaws
MIB
Woody Woodpecker
Make up horror show - she acts and dances so understands pretend and dressing up

We didn't get to Animal Actors on stage but I am sure she would have liked that.

My DD is average height at 7 and was just 48 inches this year and loved every minute we were there. We had orignally thought of doing a WDW/Universal trip but DD only talked about the rides and attractions at Universal so we just stayed there for a week instead.

She is more of a dare devil and will ride about anything, this trip she was so excited to ride the Mummy. She rode it 3 times before she got the courage up to open her eyes :) She liked FJ but it was just a tad bit too much for her so after a back to back ride with child swap she was done :)

Thanks for your input. She was 4 when we were last at Disney and was a little timid about many of the rides. She did love Buzz Lightyear, we did that one many times. She has been to Busch Gardens Williamsburg since then and has gotten a little more adventurous but still doesn't like roller coasters.

I keep flip flopping on this one. It has been almost 17 years since we have been to Universal and I know dd 14 would love it. I just don't want dd 7 to be disappointed.

Another question, if we stay on-site at Universal, is there enough to do in the area when we aren't in the parks? We will not have a car.

Thanks again.

my 7 year old DD had a great time. She is a bit of a daredevil (went on Dr. Doom ride and liked it) but she enjoyed everything she did. Loved Seussland, and loved Flight of the Hippogrif, and since we stayed on site, she could ride everything again and again, which we've never been able to do at WDW, so I'd recommend on site for that alone. We did not have a car either, and we filled our 4 days and nights easily. Both my kids loved the pools at PBH, where we were staying at, and the pool at RP, which we tried after doing the Simpsons character meal there. They would have liked more pool time, actually. The kids, and DH and I, did not really like the pool at HR---the music was blaringly loud. They liked the slide, but after 30 mins or so our ears couldn't take it anymore and we left to swim at PBH. So, all in all I would heartily recommend!:thumbsup2
