Is there anywhere good to eat at the Disney Studios?

Looking for lunch or dinner. Have eaten at 50's and that was okay (we had herb cheese app., shared the fried chicken and had dad's sundae for dessert). Any of other TS's good or CS's?

We had a fantastic meal at Mama Melrose's. I was afraid of going because of all the bad reviews, but we loved it.

For CS, we also like Pizza Planet. The pizza and salad are both good.

Mama Melrose was a pretty good TS. I actually like the ABC comissary (dont tell me DW, as she cannot stand it!) and their unique offerings. I did not like the Brown Derby at all but that has been 5 years ago!

We ate at Brown Derby in December and really enjoyed it. And of course my 4 year old son loves Pizza Planet.

Avoid ABC Commisary or whatever. I hear horrible things (never experienced it though).

Backlot Express is hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers... Pizza Planet is pizza.... These things are the same everywhere in Disney World.

My mom and sister at at the Flatbread place (used to be Studio Catering Co) and they loved it.

Here are reviews of the DHS restaurants we've visited:

50s Prime Time Cafe: Always fun, and the food has been good every time we've been there. We've had pot roast, chicken pot pie, fried chicken, and meatloaf there. All were good to very good.

ABC Commissary: The cuban sandwich is pretty decent. The rest of the menu is just "eh" to us. Still, the inside dining area is pretty nice, while there are also nice tables outside.

Brown Derby: Excellent food, great atmosphere, wonderful setting, perfect service. We'll be coming back here again and again!

Mama Melrose: Another "eh" restaurant. It's fairly bland Italian food.

Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater: The burgers are fine. Again, nothing special here other than the ambiance.

You should really try Sci-Fi. It is a really unique dining experience and the food is pretty good. Great (huge) burgers (even at dinner you can request them), and the reuben is very good. When we go, of course we want good food, but you can go anywhere and eat at home, so we like to eat at the "theme" places.

At ABC Commissary, if you want an air-conditioned, comfortable place to eat a counter service, I think it was pretty decent. Two of us had cheeseburgers and three had the Cuban Sandwich. Watch out for the Cuban Sandwich because there is A LOT of mustard and it ruins the sandwich. You can also bring other counter-service meals in there and eat if somebody else wants something different while you are dining there.

For another counter service there is a place down by Tower of Terror that has good subs and at Starring Rolls Cafe, the sandwiches are kind of pricey but they are really fresh and good.

Have fun!

I enjoy Brown Derby for lunch (I love the Cobb salad, even though it looks gross!)

I also like the Backlot Express, though it's not as good now as it once was.

Aside from that, no, there's nowhere good to eeat at the Studios. :snooty:

Our meals at the Brown Derby were fantastic back in Oct. We also enjoyed the 50's Prime Time. (Great pot roast).

Counter service wise I had my best and worst meals at MGM. ABC Commisary was just awful. Bland, tasteless, overcooked food. Yuck! On the other hand I had a fantastic vegetarian option (I think it was some kind of a grilled veggie sandwich) at the Backlot Express. Hands down the best counter service item I had all week.

Another thumbs up for Sci Fi. No it's not gourmet by any means, but they have great burgers, sandwiches & shakes. Their BLT soup is great too. The atmosphere is one-of-a-kind, and it's a lot of fun. My boys insist we eat there every trip, which is fine with me. I do not, however like Toy Story Pizza Planet. It reminded me of frozen cafeteria pizza! The place was very dirty last time we went there too.

I love the Sci-Fi Dine In Theater!
Personally, I've never had any bad food experiences there and enjoy the food everytime. The atmosphere is so amazing though that even if the food was horrible, I'd still go.
:goodvibes

My husband and I both feel the CS restaurants in HS are lacking.

I love Sci Fi- that is always on our list of places to eat. Not too impressed with Primetime.

We never tried Starring Rolls though. We will definitely do it this time.

Remember when all the CS basically served the same things: hamburger, cheeseburger, chicken strips? It has definitely grown since that time!

Mama Melrose has eally good food. My family always has dinner there when we go to the Sudios.
50's Prime Time and the Sci-Fi Dine In are also really good. Thats usually where we have lunch. :goodvibes

We tried Sci-Fi last year for dinner, and we liked it! The atmospere is really neat, and the food was not bad, either. We will be dining there again next trip!

Hmmmm. Maybe we will have to add Sci-Fi to our list for lunch. I have read so many bad reviews I have never even considered trying it. DH might get a kick out of it and he loves a good burger and shake too!

Brown Derby is best hands down, for a snack the cookies at the Writer's Stop are great too!

Just ate at Brown Derby two weeks ago. Everything was excellent as usual. We have eaten there at least 5 times over the last few years and enjoy it each time.
We also like Mama Melrose. Not fancy, but good basic food.:goodvibes

Do you need an ADR for 50's Primetime? We're thinking about trying that this time.
