We've stayed at both places and much to my surprise, my husband really liked OKW better. We had orignally wanted to buy there, but it was sold out.

Can you switch? Do I contact DVC to do it?

Please advise.

DVC has no means to switch. If you can find someone wanting to trade contracts the transfer is fairly simple, but will involve 2 closings and both deeds will have to be recorded with the new ownership.

As RoutemanDan stated above, you will likely need to sell your cuurent contract and purchase a resale at OKW.

Good Luck!

I recently had the same question, except our home is VWL. Like you, my DH loved OKW. I finally decided to leave things the way they are for now. First, if you have a loan (we do), it seems to complicate the issue. Second, since you can reserve at your home at 11 mos. and at others at 7 mos., and everyone says that OKW is rarely a problem at 7 mos. but VWL (and certainly BWV) is,so Idhold on to that ability to reserve at the harder one 11 mos. out just in case I ever stayed there. But I know DH would love to be able to say he owned at OKW. Guess we'll just have to wait til our 2 boys graduate college, and we can afford another major purchase of points.

We did this except we sold one of our OKW contracts to buy a BWV resale. For us OKW is ok but we prefer BWV, it was getting too hard to get reservations at BWV using OKW points at the 7 month mark, so we sold OKW and bought BWV. We still own a contract at OKW and are thinking of selling this also and buying a BCV contract. OKW you can always get rooms at, the other DVC resorts are not as easy without the 11 month mark. For us owning at OKW has no advantages and it did take a while to sell the OKW contract and we did not get a very high price for it; thus we are on the fence with what to do with this contract. We really want a BCV contract, we will see.

Diane,

I'm just the opposite. My home is OKW (150 points), but I would rather stay at BWV. It is difficult to get that standard view at 7 months out sometimes, so once my son is in college (and I have a better idea of what my finances will be) I'll buy a BWV contract.

We owned at BWV for 4 years before buying at OKW this year.

We enjoy BWV and agree with others that it is very important to have the ability to book at 11 months out. We always try to get standard view to save points, and are usually successful.

Besides the different "feel" of the resort, we also enjoy owning at OKW because the points required to stay are all at the "standard" rate, therefore it costs less to stay there. The annual maintenance fee per point is also less. It is much easier to book at OKW most times of the year. The only time we had a hassle was this year. We are on a waitlist for OKW for Jan 1 and 2, but that is because we didn't try to book until mid October. (We got Jan 3,4,5 with no problem.

It is easy enough to use your BWV points to stay at OKW, we have done it before. I would not go through the expense to switch. I don't think it is worth it, but that's just me. Good Luck!
