i have the entire month of January off every year(i mow lawns) lol so it seems the cheapest times to travel to Disney are the only time i have off of work so my question is

for a 7 night stay how many points will i need for a 2 bedroom villa???

Joshua, scroll up to the top of this page and click on DVC Point Charts. Select the resort you'd like to check and scroll down to 2012, then look at the 2BR points for the month of January.

Looks like the cheapest would be 185 points for a 7 night stay in a 2BR Value villa at Animal Kingdom. The same villa with a concierge level is 363 points, which was the most expensive I saw.

realistically you're looking at a min of about 220-250 points for a 2 BR for 7 nights looking mostly at Jan assuming a significant portion of your stays will be at OKW or SSR. If you want to try most of the resorts or might go other times, you should likely go toward the higher of those amounts. Even more if you plan for the higher end resorts more than not.

so im looking at the WL and it says 37pts for sun-thurs and fri-sat 47 pts

could we just buy 50pts and stay sun-thurs?

What you see in the points charts are per night. For instance, we are going to Disney this summer, and we're staying in a 2-BR at Beach Club 7/20 - 7/30. It will cost us 501 points for that stay. Weekdays (S - Th) will run us 48 points per night, and Fri and Sat nights will cost us 55 points per night. Some resorts and certain views require more points than others, that's why it's best to pick a week or two, and start playing around with the points calculator for various resorts. That's how I ended up landing on how many points to buy.

The good thing about points is that you can use them in any fashion that you want. So, if you want to avoid weekends, you can. If you want to go a few nights only, you can.

Just be aware that total points for a resort are fixed and can not change. However, the points for each night, for different room types, and the seasons a time period is in can all be adjusted to ensure that balance is happening in terms of bookings. If something goes up, however, something else will go down.

I say this only so that you are aware and take this into consideration when deciding what to purchase. We currently travel in Magic Season which is a higher point time. It works out for us because at some point, when we retire, we will travel to Disney during what hopefully, will still be lower point times--meaning our points will go farther down the road.

You may want to consider looking at other seasons, just so you have an idea of what you will be able to do if you travel outside the January time frame.

Good luck!
