Is there anything overly special about the Disneyland hotel apart from location?!

I'm staying there at the start of march and I think it will basically be the same as every other Disney hotel but better in terms of location! People who've stayed there let me know what it's like if ye can !! :)

If you look in the trip reports section for reports that mention DLH you will be able to see pictures and get people's reviews of the hotel.

We stayed there last March and thought it was fab. I loved being so close to the park, the view over the main entrance from the dining room, the fact that we could hear the train whistle from our bedroom. The hotel itself is beautiful and our bedroom was very nice and spacious. The breakfast was great too.

There's definitely something a bit extra special about if, however I've never stayed at another Disney hotel so can't really compare. We also had a 40% discount when we booked and I'm not sure I'd be willing to pay more for it, certainly not the full price!

I'm sure you'll love it!

The location is great, certainly noticed it last time when I stayed at the SL. I certainly don't think its worth the price they charge. I stayed when I had 50% off & that was the limit of what I would pay for it.

The hot breakfast was a nice extra too.

We loved DLH, especially as we stayed there in January so it was VERY cold. So it was lovely to be back in our room in under 5 minutes from either of the parks.

We loved being able to hear Main St from our room, the room was much bigger and nicer than the Sequoia Lodge, and the hotel is just so beautiful and magical.

The breakfast is 100x times better than in SL, and it was great to be able to go into EMH at 8am and then after doing all the rides we wanted to come back to the hotel at around 9.30 and have a big hot breakfast.

EMH is the best thing about DLH though, we were the only people in the park both mornings as all the other hotel guests get held at bag check.

We can't wait to stay back there, but I can't justify full price (3 nights there cost me the same at 11 nights at the Boardwalk in WDW! Or 14 nights at Animal Kingdom Lodge!) but if we go again during a winter time and they have the 50% offer on then that's where we'll stay.

That sounds good because ive stayed in SL the last 2 or 3 times!! But for some reason i think ill miss walking through the village to go home and all that!! But then again im sure i wont if the weather isnt so nice and im tired haha!

For us it was definitely location location location! ;)

We also loved the breakfast and the amount of characters around at breakfast.

Myself and my hubby were not overly wowed by the rooms tbh, we just thought it was the same layout with different decor to NYH....

but.....given the chance (and funds) we would stay there again in a shot! :thumbsup2

Have fun

Agree with Torsie's comments (hi Torsie oldtimer! :thumbsup2) especially re EMH and the fact you will pretty much be in the park before anyone else can't be beaten. Walking down Main St USA and having it to yourself is truly magical and doesn't happen that often :lovestruc.

Have stayed twice at the DLH, the location was fab for us as both girls were very small - DD2 a baby both times really. We didn't do a huge amount of popping back to the hotel but the times we did, it was a godsend.

If we do manage a trip this year (and it's looking doubtful as DH doesn't seem to be able to pin his holiday down before 31st Jan offer ends :sad2:) we wouldn't be able to afford the DLH (same time 2 years ago is showing at £1200 more and that is with 30% off) plus I'd want to stay a little longer so would need a mortgage for a week at DLH, whereas NPB or SL is more affordable for that length of time. And I figure that the added 'to and fro' each day is compensated by our extra days' stay :rotfl:.

Still, to end this post, I will be sad not to stay at the DLH if I'm honest - it does have a magic about it as you are almost in the park. The view over the train station etc in the morning at breakfast when the park is just waking for the day is fabulous :cloud9:.

The characters at breakfast are great and not sure how this will compare at the other hotels.

Good luck deciding.

I loved staying there! Stayed twice. The location is the best thing about it!

Don't think I will be staying there again now though due to the cost and don't feel sad at all about that.

DLH just has something really magical about it. In living memory I've only stayed at DLH and HNY, and the difference between the two is fairly notable.

Breakfast at DLH is quite the spectacle; whilst HNY had a fairly similar spread, DLH just had the wow factor and great atmosphere. Breakfast was my favourite meal each day when staying at DLH, and you have such a great view!

Both times we've stayed there we've been able to hear the Main Street music and turnstile 'Welcome' from our rooms which, like others have said, is a constant reminder of how close to the parks you are.

The little Disney touches in the rooms are lovely, however the facilities don't quite match the price (in my opinion). I sort of feel like DLH and HNY just have the same rooms in different clothes!

It is so lovely being able to walk in and out of the park, however we rarely popped back during the day. The location is wonderful, however I also enjoyed walking through Disney Village every night when staying at HNY.

I would love to stay there again, but a student budget just doesn't stretch that far. My mum is talking about a girly trip for my 21st, which would mean the two of us and my younger sister staying at DLH. My mum is completely in love with DLH and can't fathom the idea of staying anywhere else; staying at DLH is just such a big part of the Disney magic to her, and since she has the budget to suit it I can't blame her!

Hiya :)

I'm enjoying being back on the DLRP after deserting you guys for a few years.

OP - Trust me - you won't miss walking through the village! It's far too magical being in the DLH. :lovestruc

Torsie - I'm the same, not been on here in some time due to not having a trip planned (still haven't but it's not for the want of trying!). I actually found your wedding trip report over on the WDW boards the other day - it was fab and you looked gorgeous :lovestruc:goodvibes

I like this thread alot !!

We are having a 4 night stay at DLP hotel in May this year after sampling, Davey Crockett Ranch, the New York and the New port Bay in previous years we are very very thrilled to be staying at the DLP hotel this time.

Cant wait to feel the magic once more with both my girls.

I no isnt it so exciting?! Haha! I think I'm gonna feel like I shouldn't be staying amongst these rich people in this rich hotel haha!

We stayed at the DLH for my birthday treat last year and it was fabulous. :cloud9: I especially loved the hippo tiles in the bathroom!
But for some reason i think ill miss walking through the village to go home and all that!!

I really did miss this :lmao: and had to really force myself to leave the cozy DLH bubble one evening otherwise I wouldn't have gone near the Village at all! :rotfl2:

Not to sidetrack this thread, but I have a similar question:
how do you compare Sequoia Lodge with Hotel NY? DLH is not an option for us, but maybe HNY. Just wondering what the big differences are.

We're also going the first week of March.

Thanks!

We stayed at the start of December and I was really concerned but absolutely loved it.

For the cold weather it was sheer luxury to be there, we had a room with outside space and it was so nice to sit out with a drink, listen to the music and people watch (albeit in your coat ).

One day we spent pretty much all day just hanging around the hotel and had the best time. I didn't miss the village if I'm honest, we popped in a couple of evenings and wandered through after dinner at Cafe Mickey but no security checks and just waltzing up to the hotel at the end of the day is priceless. I'm sure you'll love it :goodvibes

We are staying there late March for 4 nights, got a really good price that was a significant saving. There is no way I would pay full price.

Having only been to DLRP once I can't really compare from many of the hotels, though we did enjoy Hotel New York.

I did have a look around the DLH and agree the location is a big factor in wanting to stay there, having been to the Grand Floridian on one of our many Florida holidays the DLH struck me as a smaller but similar version to that.

The reception area is full of nice seating areas, stairways with shiny brass fittings and nice places to just sit and relax.

I like the look of the Cafe Fantasia, though I didn't go inside.

It does feel like a special place to stay so I am hoping that it lives up to my expectations when we arrive there. Certainly location wise it's hard to fault and is also very close to the train station.

I certainly won't miss walking through the Village unless it has improved from last year, especially as the new Disney Store isn't going to be open, I will probably have a walk over to HNY for an evening drink at the City Bar and a visit or two to Earl Of Sandwich also.

The little Disney touches in the rooms are lovely, however the facilities don't quite match the price (in my opinion). I sort of feel like DLH and HNY just have the same rooms in different clothes!

This is very true but not just restricted to the DLRP hotels, some of the WDW one's unless they have been refurbished also suffer from the rooms not matching the price, you do pay for the location to a degree.
We stayed at the Boardwalk in 2006 and were extremely disappointed with the room, the Polynesian room was also not as nice as we had hoped, but the locations were brilliant.
