Is there any difference when MS rebooks vs doing it yourself online?

I've always called because I figured that was better but since the process is to cancel days and then rebook them is there really any difference than doing it yourself online? For some reason I figured MS could "hold" the reservation you want to switch to but I now realize that I probably just made that up in my head and is not true at all.

Not really. There are a few things MS can do that we can’t. They can book a trip across a UY and they can combine multiple reservations of the same type into one.

However, the rest is the same when bookbling and modifying.

But theoretically you could do that as well and then call to have them combine the reservations right? I might not quite understand what the booking a trip across a UY really entails.

If I want to travel end of July into August with my August UY, I can only booked the nights before July online at the 11 month window, and then have to wait to book the nights starting August 1 until that 11 month window,

MS can book the entire thing starting with my July dates doing it all at one 11 month window.

So, yes, you can do it and have it combined, but for a hard to get room, getting the first dates, and then calling allows you to not have to try for two different dates.

MS can also rearrange points for a reservation in ways that you sometimes can’t online.

Before the current web portal allowed you to modify reservations in-place there were other situations where MS could do modifications you couldn’t without risking losing it, but that’s no longer a problem.
