Is there a way to donate/recycle old computer parts?

We got a new computer awhile ago and don't know what to do with the old one. We can't really sell it because 1)the monitor is broken, 2) we took parts from it to put in the new one. I don't want to throw it away. I was hoping there's something else we can do with it. I really want it out of my house. Any ideas?

I would like to know too because I have 2 perfectly good computers that I no longer need or want.

Check with your county or municipal recycling coordinator.

Ours has an annual computer/electronic recycling collection program

Beleive it or not, you can attempt to sell them on Ebay... we make a good amoutn of side money on "old machines". .. several hundred ($800) since the beginning of the year.

I've seen so many machines out in the recycle center.

I had the "Geek on Wheels" man move the hard drive my old computer & place it in a newer computer. (THe power supply on the old machine died - could find a replacement.) Apparently there is a program where old computers are donated to 3rd world countries. They combine salvage parts from the discarded computers to create operable machines.
Since the hard drive was removed from the CPU I didn't have a problem with it. I just wish I had told him to take the monitor too. I don't know the name of the program but my Geek heard about it from his pastor.

Go to your local schools - they usually will love to get the computer. It lets the kids take it apart and learn the parts. They also use the parts that are working to build new computers. You can also take it off your taxes.
