Is there a trick to getting "good entertaining chef" at Teppan Edo?

I know this can be hard but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I've been reading that not many people enjoyed Teppan Edo because they got "boring" chef who'll only do "onion volcano".

I saw pics in yelp where some chef made "mickey" or other Disney characters with onions on the grill. Is this done at regular dinner?

Any advise or trick of getting "good entertaining chef" who will be fun to watch?

Thank you

Hmm. And here all I ever wanted was a good chef, not the most entertaining. I've been doing it wrong all these years.

I've never had a chef do just the volcano and nothing else. The onions aren't used for the Mickey those are when someone orders fried rice because it is the rice. They either make a Mickey or a heart. I had one chef who did Mickey and then a heart and then a Minnie Mouse and told a little story while he did it all. Also have had one sing under the sea while he played with the shrimp.

There is no way to request which chef you get.

Love Teppan Edo still, even after our entertaining chef was flipping the large salt and pepper shakes in the air and one slipped and flew across and whacked me. i felt like a super star there were so many employees rushing over to check on me, and no I did not get comped my meal and other than a little bruise the next day I was fine. I now have a story to share :-).

Do you automatically get noodles and beef fried noodles with your order? Of all the teppan restaurants I've gone to in our area, we always got veggies (zucchini, onion, mushroom) and by looking at the picture, there's udon/noodles instead of veggies?

You receive noodles, veggies and your entree cooked on thevTeppan grill. Beef rice (NOT fried rice) is served on the side.

Being entertained is a big part of the hibatchi experience.

We are trying Teppan Edo for the first time this trip and I hope we get a little Disney in the entertainment too.

I agree being entertained is big part of the hibatchi experience. And of course, for me, dipping sauce makes the big differenence.

This is on DH and DD fav's list. We have had many different Chefs, and honestly they all have been great.... food and the entertainment. They basically have sorta a script to follow, plus they have a time frame in which to get everything cooked, served and cleaned up. We have had Onion Volcano, then the chef made a train with the onion, Mickey and Minnie in the cooking oil, The chef sang just keep swimming with the shrimp. This is a fun meal time..

Enjoy pixiedust:

Our first hibachi experience was at WDW, so maybe we are just spoiled, but we just can't find one locally that is as good. We always have wonderful chefs there, some just a little better than others, food is always great. And @Alice777 is on point about the sauce, there is no other yum yum sauce like the one at Teppan Edo :)

I have been there a few times now and have always found the chefs to be entertaining and the food the be prepared very well. If memory serves they all did most of the same "show" and I believe as the pp mentioned it is all the same script.
