Im in the middle of planning a trip and I'm so afraid my airfare is going to go up before i book it. Right now we are just pricing out if its cheaper doing it as a package or purchasing everything by itself. Is there a certain time that airlines usually alter prices?

Not really.

Airlines monitor pricing and seat sales on a continual basis using computer programs.

There are some trends (like the SW Tuesday emails), but.... you can't always count on them.

Other people booking also affects the price you can get. If you are looking at a specific flight and a family of 4 takes the last 4 cheaper seats, it's going to go up. The airline may look at their flights and decide to add a couple more cheaper seats, then it could go back down. When I'm hunting for airfares, I check daily. Usually I can find a day when it goes down and I grab it. For my December trip, AirTran was running $215. They had a sale and it went down to $175. I still wasn't sure, the sale ended Friday Oct 1. I checked it on Oct 1 and it went down to $135! I grabbed it! On Oct 2 it went back up to $215!

Thats the truth! The email for the discounts came out today. Not Tuesday

I normally check daily to see if the flights have dropped in price that I need or have already booked.

One thing that I've read and heard from various travel experts (on TV, magazines, etc) is that most fares will drop (if they're going to be dropping) on Tuesday night (Wednesday AM) sometime after midnight.

I'm always checking for airfare from somewhere, but that "theory" proved very correct twice a month ago. I had been checking daily, and on Wednesday morning when I woke up fare from PIT had dropped to $98. By the weekend it was up to over $250, and on the following Wed (after we had another person decide last minute to go) the fare dropped again, down to $115. Both of those were sometime in the middle of the night Tuesday into Wednesday just like all those "experts" said!
