hi all,

I am confused and was hoping some one here could clarify for me... Is there a shop at Trader Sam's where you can buy stuff (like shirts and the 'specialty' glasses)?

If so, where is it?

Thank you,
AussieCaribou

Depending on the drink you buy, you are able to keep some souvenir glasses, but no they don't sell anything else.

Trader Sam's is just a bar at both locations. DL is smaller with lots of patio seating. If you order a special drink it is best to order it inside to watch the "show" and then take it outside to drink. They do not sell the cups and glasses separate form the beverages.

No, no store but you can buy

We recently went to the one in Cali, husband kept his glass from his drink (they gave him a new one in the box) and he bought a Trader Sams tiki/Hawaiian style shirt at the gift shop in the resort.

Well you see it's like this :faint: not long ago there was a giftie shop that was right next to the entrance of Trader Sam's place. It sold cool things like matching zebra bookends, head hunting curios and jewelry, matter of fact, all kinds of jewelry; piranha teeth chokers with matching earrings, well unless you're missing an ear, then you can either get a discount and that's on top of your AP discount or you can just purchase one earring. Shrunken head necklaces, they are mini ones, so they are not too heavy to wear all day if you should want to do that. Braided rope bracelets that are suitable for gift giving and personalization too. Beautiful beaded head dresses with or without genuine feathers. Shells of different colors as pins, chokers, earrings and also as a bra top lol no guarantee thou on size availability sorry! Etc.... In addition to the gifts, shell soap dishes with matching cups and dishes too. And of course the staple of any decent gift shop.....Postcards! Terrific selection it was... scenes of Sam's village, pics of him with his wives, can't tell you how many he has or had, because his marital status appears to be seasonal. It has to do with his special stew. His fav baby elephants pictures with one or more of his children. Not sure how many mini Sams there may be, but most of the children that attend the local school are arguably his. :faint: Pics of wild life, of course! Lol The cutest cards are of the chimps and the baby elephants. And of Zulu, the bull elephant that Sam raised from the time the packaderm was a baby. The elephants momma had been ill and didn't make it.
My most favorite item is the big kahuna shrunken head, they are so awesome! Just don't ask any questions of Trader Sam and you'll be just fine? ;) See those heads are special because it is but rare occasion when Trader Sam's island sees just the right "client" the one that has the right stuff! It wasn't easy for him to ship those here, but Sam does have his ways:) And he doesn't like to disappoint his friends and guests after all.
Now all of this wonderment came crashing down one day when a small group of anti foreign gift shops began protesting. It was just a mess! These people made it impossible for Sam to transact proper business at his bar. This small radical faction were chanting not very pleasant things about Sam or Disney for that matter. Every day they would show up in front of the shop and bar, picket, chant, hold hands like a human chain. And each day the cops were called. That's an interesting and entirely different subject man. Anyway, after several days of this non sense, Disney just had their fill of it. So Sam put everything up for sale on EBay and a few things on Amazon Prime and shut down his brick and mortar gift shop. Sam was so disappointed and so were many others, including myself! Nothing is sacred these days, if ever. :( Terrible when people lose their heads!
You might just still find some of these gifts and post cards on line for sale. For Sam had a large inventory.

LOL. Thank you, Gizele. I love your stories. You rock.

And thank you everyone else for your help. I guess it means that I will have to have a drink while I am there. ;)

Gracias. Definitely have a drink there. If you're real lucky you will get to have a drink with the infamous (clears throat) I meant famous and most lovable cannibal himself Trader Sam.With the bonus of getting to meet his cousin the famous, not infamous, Trader Joe, from the very popular grocery store chain. Which by the way, some of Sam's village goodies are sold at his cousin's stores. My most favorite is the special stew, that has a taste I can't quite define, but it is so quite divine and it comes in handy little quick heat & serve containers. Which by the way they come with an added bonus of Trader Sam's collector series trading cards. The cards have different images of life at his jungle home. And also of his farm in Hawaii.
