Is there a Room Request FAQs thread?

I hate to ask a question that's probably been answered hundreds of times, but can anyone tell me about requesting rooms???

We're staying at the Contemporary, standard wing room, for the first time first week of June, and I've read on so many posts that I should request a first floor room as close as possible to the tower. How do I request that?

First, is it "standard" to request room location? What else do people request besides location? I know there are no guarantees, but do hotels try to accomodate the requests? How far in advance should requests be made? And how do you make the requests, via phone, fax, or email? Do you contact the hotel or the reservations center?

Thanks for any answers!

There used to be a time that sending a fax was a great way to get your room requests to WDW.

Now with the beauty of the Internet there are so many people sending faxes that WDW at some of the resorts are ignoring the faxes.

So just call CRO and have them put your requests in your reservation. WDW is very good at trying to grant them. We have also had very good luck at just making a request when we check in. I don't agonize like some do here about making room requests ahead of time. By smiling sweetly and asking nicely I have gotten my requests every time at check in.
