Is there a page for "pooh sized" riders at DisneyLAND?

Hi,

A friend is going to Disneyland, CA for the the first time and is very much "Pooh sized". She does not like fast rides but anticipates not riding much of anything because she thinks she won't fit. She's just going along with her family. I remember in the past there was either a thread or a web page (website?) to help describe the ride vehicles for WDW but is there one for DisneyLAND?

Also, in case she likes the idea, what are the rental (are they called AVC?) options at the parks? She has a hard time walking distances.

I doubt she'd do something that wasn't available right there at the parks; no off site delivery stuff.

I too am Pooh Sized and have fit into every ride I have ridden, disney is very accomodating to all of us no matter what size the only problem I would really forsee is the Maliboomer but I have never ridden it but I have everything else..... Tell her to go and have fun and not let her size hold her back... she would end up missing some really great memories with her family for nothin'!!

I am short 5'3" and pooh size - most of my weight is in the belly. Mullhohand Madness was very uncomfortable. I did not try orange stinger - now symphony swings, space mountain or california screaming but everything else was fine. The only turnstile that was somewhat problematic was snow white. I don't know if she is traveliing with children but I did have my daughter ride most of the time with my husband so that the safety bar would go down properly for her. She will have a great time- tell her not to worry.

I am pooh sized and have fit on everything at Disneyland. Orange Stinger was tight (Silly swings now but probably the same thing) but I fit.

I think she will be pleasantly surprised. Disney is very size friendly. I have had some not so nice experiences at various Six Flags and Universal but at Disney, its always been good!

One thing that would help is maybe knowing what size your friend is? Pooh sized can mean meany different things! Tell her I am a size 20 but have been bigger in the past and still fit.

The only ride that is something I am not keen on is Astro Orbitor. I fit but its awkward getting in and out. On the other hand, its awkward for everyone.

Also, some rides, like Astro Orbitor and Matterhorn seat two, but if one of the adults is pooh sized, it will not work. I can fit on those with my kids, but not by husband since I take up too much room. I don't even try to sit with him on those because I don't want to be embarrassed if we don't fit (he's very thin but I still won't try it).

She can rent a scooter at the park, they used to be $50 (used to rent one for my fil) but I think they are more now. You put down a deposit and then some of that is refunded at the end of the day. We were always able to have my fil take the scooter between Disneyland and DCA. There are offsite places as well that might be cheaper if she's going for more than a day or two. But I am not sure of the information on that. The Disablities Board here on the disboards might have some information on that (its primarily WDW but if you do a seach on that board using "Disneyland" something might come up).

I was trying to remember the differences between WDW and Disneyland since I've been to both many times. I do remember (and I am a size 10) that the vehicles for Alice in Wonderland are REALLY tight. She may want to do some of those rides with her grandkids but a few might not work. I think SOME of the older rides in Disneyland may be a bit more tight than WDW, from my memory.

They've redone a lot of the older ones to make them more comfortable. For Alice I'd put 2 grand kids in the front and she could ride in the back seat. BIL is a very large guy and had no problem with any ride he tried. The only one I wouldn't suggest is Mulholland Madness because the leg room is very tight.

I have never met the lady. She's my sister's co-worker. My sis says most definitely over a size 22, sis is not a good guesser but thinks maybe 260+ lbs? Large in both waist and rear. So, I guess, all over not just in one area.

I have found about three web pages now and some specific info. on Disneyland so I sent it all in an e-mail for my sis to forward to this lady. She leaves on vacation in a few days so there really isn't a lot of time to go into details with her. I thought by sending some specific sites she could glean what she wants that will help her on her vacation.

Oh, and good info. on Alice. My sis and I were put in the front seat together and it was a bit tight. I didn't realize the back was roomier.

I think she will be fine. Again some rides she'll need to sit alone but she'll fit comfortably by doing that.

At my highest I weighed 250 and fit on everything. My fil as I said was I believe 280 and did fine as well (including CA Screamin, Space Mountain and even Mullholland Madness) my husband's cousin is also plus sized and tall and fit into what she rode fine (no thrills for her).

I remember for our first trip being absolutely sick with worry and it was all for nothing!

Also relay to her on some rides such as Indiana Jones, TOT and Soarin, that the seatbelts are very long. Tell her to sit down, then extend the seatbelt all the way and fasten it. The seatbelts are always long enough that two plus sized adults could use them at once! But it can be tough to see to buckle them which is why is scoot forward, pull it out all the way and fasten it that way. A little tip I learned on here.

I'm not sure where "pooh sized" fits into the scale but I'm fat and I fit on every ride. And I've seen people bigger than me happily climbing into roller coasters. (Like approx. 300 pounds each side-by-side on Space Mountain.)

No cast member at Disneyland is ever going to do anything to make a big person feel uncomfortable.

As for scooters, they call them Electric Convenience Vehicles (ECV) and rent them in the plaza near the entrance to Disneyland. $50/day plus tax and a refundable $20 deposit.

My DH and I are Pooh sized - or as we like to say Fluffkateres!
I have done a little research on ride seating at www.allears.net - the link posted above. We have found we are more comfortable if we know what we are getting into!! I would also suggest asking the CM as they are assigning you to a row. SOME seats on rides have more room than others! A good CM should know this. I have notes that I took on one trip - but I can't find them now I do remember that on Screamin' each little car has 2 rows - the 2nd or back row has a bit more room for Fluffkateres The Silly Symphony Swings are tight - the outside swings have a bit more room we have found. On Splash Mountain, there is a longer bench in the back row of the log designed for a parent and small child to ride together - a larger person fits nicely there.

That's what I can think of right now - I need to put a formal list together sometime so I can share what we've learned! I'll add that to my things to do list

The tip to pull seatbelts all the way out is a good one! We always pull them out while still standing, though.

If she rides Pooh, tell her to NOT sit in the front row of the "beehive" vehicle. Much smaller space, and especially if she has knee problems, it's not fun. The second and back rows of seating in the ride vehicle are better.

Oh yes - this is a GREAT tip - really helps on Star Tours, Soarin' and Indiana Jones! Stay standing, grab the seatbelt and pull it all the way out, lean back a little, pull it around you and buckle it, THEN sit down. Works like a charm

I skimmed this thread, so maybe I missed it, but just in case...

Many rides have a special vehicle or two that can make things easier for larger riders or riders that have trouble transferring from wheelchairs. I know at least at Dumbo, Snow White, Pinocchio, Alice, and Peter Pan there are one or two vehicles that cast members can raise and lower the "armrest" at the opening on to make it easier for people to slide in and out!

If you have a Guest Assistance Card or a wheelchair, just ask the cast member at the exit/special entrance about it and they won't load you until the right vehicle comes around.

Im not really concerned about the DL rides and fitting ( I am a 22W) but what about CA? I've never been there before so am not familiar with any of the rides at all. My DH is a 3xl and I'd like to be able to tell him what rides will be okay for him....anyone have any of those other pages they could post so I could study up??? Thanks!!

The tip on asking CM's if there are bigger seats is good. An example of this is Star Tours. The seats in the back are much larger than those in front. I know it's closed right now, but that's the first example that came to mind.
