Hi to all

Starting to really research DVC and will be at WDW in August to hear the pitch.

Is there a month that is better to start your points in? Not really sure what that means? Could someone please explain?

Also what does it mean to bank your points?

THANKS!! Very excited but very confused. :confused3

Hi, Linda - the month you start your points in is called your Use Year. Mine is March, so I get my new allotment of points every March 1st. If I don't use them up within the year, I can "bank" them into the next year - sort of like a savings account for my points. I can bank 100% of my points during the first six months of my Use Year, so until August 31st I don't have any restrictions. After six months, I can only bank a certain percentage of the total, but not all of them - they must be used by the end of my year, which for me is February 28th.

It's best to choose a Use Year that is near the time you usually vacation, in case your plans change. For example, most of my trips are at Spring Break, in the summer, or in the fall. So I can use most of my points by August 31st - or I'll know that I didn't use them and I'll still be able to bank them into the next year. If I had a March Use Year and only traveled in December and January, I'd be stuck if I had to cancel my trip, because I wouldn't have time to bank all those points into the next year.

Make sense??

Considering what it is, wouldn't it make more sense for it to be called a Use Month?

I have often wondered this myself. IMO the term use year doesn't mean anything. It would be better if it were "month you get your points in" abbreviated mygypi :). But I guess that would be sudl. Hey it's a Friday afternoon and I'm ready to blow this place, what can I say. Hanname everyone.

The term "Use Year" is the time frame from when you get you points each year and when they expire (unless banked). The month is really just the "start date" of your use year. On the membership cards the month is listed under text that says "Use Year Begins".

So using this definition of Use Year you can then say thing like.
-You have until six months into your Use Year to bank 100% of your points.
or
-I want to use my 43 points banked from last use year and 71 points from the current use year for that reservation.

Of course this leads to some of the other most common new member or potential member confusion... The Current use year for a reservation is the Use year you WILL BE IN at the time of the stay.

An example of this...
my use year STARTS in August. So if I call in Feb 2005 for a stay in Jan 2006 I would be in the Use Year that runs from August 1 2005 to July 31 2006.

Wow :earseek: :badpc: I hope this didn't confuse people even more... :)
