A few years back I read somewhere that there is a limit on the amount of points one person can own. Does anyone know if this is actually a thing, or an urban legend? If it is real how many points is it? I couldn't find any mention of it in the declaration that came with my contract.

It was 2000 per resort, 5000 total maximum per membership. Don't know it it has changed.

Agie65 has over 5,600 on the misc. thread on owners with over 1,000 points. Probably has several memberships.

Does it say anywhere in the documentation? how does anyone know there is a max?

Per my Aulani T&C book it was 4000 points at ONE resort and 8000 points in total is the limit. Specifically said that was across any contract that had your name on it.

And what is the longest you can stay at one resort, straight stay? Is it 28 days or 30 or something like that?

It is in the documentation but was increased once since we first bought. That follows part of the last part of the documents where they state they can change things. :D Not everything of course but a lot.

The online reservation system maxes out at 30 days for a single reservation (it used to be 14 days) but that is a system restriction not a rule restriction. Some have mentioned that there may be a 30 day limit because of Florida law that allows one to claim residency at an address if you stay there more than 30 days. However, that law is inapplicable to DVC including because of declarations in the offical documents that prohibit one from using any ownership or stays at a DVC resort to assert residency. There is, in fact, no limit to length of stay except one determined by the number of points you own.

In the olden days when I first purchased what would become OKW there were many owners who would stay in a cheap hotel for the weekend and stay 5 nights in the resort. They would do this all winter long from January to the middle of March. In those days weekends were practically double the points of a weekday. My husband and I had plenty of points to do this and we should have.
