I'm a DCL newbie. Can't wait for our first cruise. Wanted some opinions if there is a great book that I could purchase to give me all the ideas and pointers that I need. This forum is truly awesome, but I'd like something to have on the bedside table to peruse. THANKS!!

I like the Passporter's Guide to the Disney Cruise Line myself. I refer to it often and find it's well worth the money. It contains many specific details and ideas about all aspect of the cruise.

all you really need is disboards! if it weren't for disboards, i would have never thought to bring duct tape with me on the cruise. lucky for us, it held the digital camera together when my DD knocked it off DH's hand in the excitement of seeing Cinderella!

I agree with imcross on the Passporter for a good reference point. When you register the book on thier web site www.passporter.com you will also get an email newsletter with iupdated nfo.. It has been posted on the DIS board several times and this book is usually the fav.

I agree with the "take with you" part. What better way to pass the time while waiting for piano lessons to end or gymnasticss to finish or soccer practice...you get the picture. When you're "Mom the taxi driver" the Passporter is a great way to get ready for the cruise in some of your "waiting" time. As great as the boards are, you can't take them on the plane or in the car or on the ship.

The Passporter has answered many questions for me and really helped us plan our trip. One part that is especially useful is the evaluation of the excursions and the info about the ports.

I work in IT and am very much a computer person but I just can't see curling up with a computer in front of the fire and dreaming about my cruise to warmer places. There are some things that just require a BOOK.

My library has the Passporter. I borrowed, renewed and renewed it again. It was like it was all mine! :cloud9:

Birnbaum just released his version in October - lots of pretty pix, but you'll see 50x the pix on this site (and others). But if you're stuck at ballet practice with a half hour to kill you could do worse...

Wow!!! Thank you all sooooo much. You guys are awesome. I really appreciate you. :flower1:

Another plug for the Passporter - even for veteran cruisers, it's useful - plus it holds a lot of memories of things you might have forgotten (like your menus!) - Dave and Jennifer along with their helpers have done a bang up job with this guide and I have also purchased their other guides and found them just as useful and informative.

I just used my Disney World Passporter for the last trip and I loved it. Our next trip is a combo cruise/Disney World. Is there anything in the cruise book about combining your trip, or would I need to buy two books?

first of all, mom2rb, the passporter book does have the land/sea cruise combinations in it.

second of all - this book is AWESOME!!! i can't put it down. AND, it came within 2 days after i ordered it. unbelievable service!

I have the old Passporter. Does anyone know if the new one is very different or are they pretty much the same? I am contemplating buying the new one, but only if it contains more information. By the way, I purchased the Passporter back in March when I booked my April 2005 cruise and found it to be full of useful information.

Another vote for the Passporter! It's full of great information and easy to carry around with you (I still find myself reading through it when I need a cruise fix!).

Another vote for Passporter! :goodvibes

Just got the new edition. LOVE it! I could NOT plan a Disney trip without these boards, but I like to have a book to take with me while I'm in 'planning' mode and then with me to the 'World'. I'm addicted to the Unofficial Guide to WDW and I needed some resource like that for my upcoming cruise. Passporter is it :cool1:

the cruise book from passporter mentions the land/sea but does not discuss the land portion at WDW...yo could pretty much use you old WDW passporter, but know that the pricing and how they do tickets has completely changed so the new one may help you more!!! :flower:

I just got the third edition and have not read it from cover to cover yet but most of the changes are additions about the west coast cruises and ports...there are smaller changes to the rest but it is pretty much the same as far as i can tell but it is great!!! lots of new pictures....
