Has anyone's child got sick and needed a doctors visit. Please tell you how you handled it. I have a son that gets strep throat alot and can just see him coming down with it while we are there. He usually back to normal within 24hrs after taking prescript med. but of course you need a doctors prescript to get it. My sons doctor is pretty good about this stuff and I'm going to talk to her about it but would like to know others experiences with thier sick kids.

While I've not been to WDW yet, I can answer the question as to a physician down there based on my travel guide by Birnbaum's. There are two facilities called Centra Care that provide non emergency care near WDW that are next to pharmacies. The number to call is 407-239-6463. They also offer courtesy transportation from most area hotels.
Centra Care also has an in room 24 hour on call service. That number is 407-238-2000. There is also another service called Doctors on Call Service that also does 24 hour in room visits. Their number is 407-399-DOCS.
While I don't know the cost for any of these issues, you might see what your insurance covers so you know what would work best, or you could also call the numbers direct to see what the most basic fee would be just to be seen, both in and out of room. Hopefully, you won't need to use this on your trip!

Unfortunately I know the answer to this question. I've had my kids get sick on 2 trips, needing meds for ear infections. There are 2 routes I have found you can go.
If $ isn't a huge factor you can call the hotel front desk and they will give you the # of Centra Care which has drs who will come right to your room with meds and everything you would need. I say about $ being an issue b/c most likely your insurance won't cover this though they will give you the correct papers you need to submit them anyway.
Or you can visit Centra Cares office which is located just outside disney property. The problem is you have to check with your insurance co first to see if they are covered there, and then if they weren't sick when they walked in there is a good chance they will be when they leave. The dr who came to our room even told us that sitting in the waiting room there is like a germ box, and having done this it isn't the best route to go. Hopefully you won't either.

We had that experience too. Several years back my daughter came down w/strep and a very high fever. I called the dr, who made a "room call" and checked her out and even had medicine w/him. It cost me around $160 for everything but since I had contacted our dr's afterhours nurse & told her the situation & she ok'd me to call someone-our insurance paid for all of it. Talk about nice, the dr was very friendly and very patient w/her. It makes you feel good to know they have something like that there in case you ever need it. :D

They take real good care of you down at WDW.

My son got sick last June with a very high fever. I called the front desk & told them my son's fever was 105. They set two EMTs over right away. They made sure nothing was life threatening & they stayed until his fever was down to 102.

After that we went to the Center Care clinic, that others have talked about. They even will pick you up & drop you back off free of charge, if you are staying at Disney.

As far as insurance, we had to pay the clinic right after my son was seen. They needed all of it, which was a sticker shock! But I just sent it into my insurance & I was paid back everything but what a copay would be.

My DD got sick on our last visit in May. I called the front desk who connected me to the on call doctor. They are not Disney doctors but they only do room calls at Orlando resorts. The girl that answered took my info and I made an appointment. The doctor came to the room 2 hours later. He cannot do testing in the room but said DD has all the symptoms of strep. I thought it was also as I dealt with this alot with DS. So he said he could prescribe antibiotics or I could take DD for a strep test at a clinic. I chose the antibiotics as I wasn't sitting in some strange clinic for 3 hours. The doctor called in the prescription and the pharmacy delivered it to the front desk by 5pm that evening. The doctor cost $165 and the meds were $15 plus a resort charge of $5 for accepting them. It was money well spent as we didn't have to leave the room and the doctor was very nice and took his time with DD. He was at our room for about an hour! He said he spends all his time at resorts and doesn't have a normal office. I was glad that there was another option then to roam aimlessly around Orlando looking for an unfamiliar clinic.

Anytime you are traveling, particularly in a resort area or major city, there is a national service called HouseCalls USA/Hotel Docs. They have doctors on call who will come to your hotel or even private residence (if you are visiting an out of town relative, for example). Their number is 877-24HRDOC. Their website is hoteldocs.com

In the interest of full disclosure, I am one of their on-call doctors. I handle calls at all hotels in the Philadelphia and South Jersey area. I'm reasonably certain that they have doctors in the Orlando area as well.

Dicraz Why not just speak to your own doctor and ask them to write a prescrition so you have it if needed. I've done that when my kids were small and always seemed to have strep.

You can rest easy with Centra Care, in my experience. We recently stayed offsite at Orange Lake Country Club, which relies on Centra Care, as does Disney. My father had a short dizzy spell at breakfast one morning. When I asked about an in-house physician, Orange Lake called Centra Care, which quickly picked us up and took us to their clinic. My father was evaluated there and the Centra Care physian determined he needed further tests, which turned out to be absolutely the right advice. Centra Care then drove us to the emergency room at the new Florida Hospital at Celebration.

The Celebration Hospital was also excellent. They performed a battery of tests and ultimately determined my father had a serious blocked artery running to his brain. He needed immediate surgery to clear the artery. Without it, he was poised for a major debilitating stroke. The attending physicians and nurses at the hospital were wonderful. The care and skill they demonstrated were truly outstanding. Moreover, the hospital is state-of-the art and a gorgeous facility.

My father was ready to dismiss the dizzy spell as "nothing". We are grateful that Centra Care did not simply dismiss the incident, recognized that it could be something serious and arranged for my father's transfer to emergency. We had a happy outcome to what could have been a tragedy and for that I will always be grateful to Centra Care.

Frankly, if I'm ever seriously ill, I hope I'm at Disneyworld so I can be treated by Centra Care and Florida Hospital!

I just have to say that we had the worst experience with Centra Care ever two years ago. On the last day of our trip one of our dd's (then 2) woke up with an ear infection. Since ear infections are quite common in our home we knew that's what it was. We called our regular DR who said we should probably take her in for a prescription BEFORE we got on a plane. He hates to just give out prescriptions without seeing the child. Disney told us about Centra Care. Well, we went there, she was crying at that point because her ear was hurting her so much. We told them that we had to catch our plane which was in 4 1/2 hours from the time we arrived. We were told there was no way they would guarentee that. They didn't take our insurance either. We waited with a crying 2 year old for 2 1/2 hours, while our 4 year old ds was climbing off the walls. By the time we saw the DR our dd had spiked a fever and was breathing shallow as she does when she spikes a fever. (We had asked for motrin or tylenol, to which we were told she would have to see the DR first) She did have an ear infection and the DR said since she was breathing shallow she needed a breathing treatment. We tried to explain she did this when she has a high fever, but the DRs were not beleiving us. They insisted on chest exrays, which we agreed to and admitted they saw nothing, but insisted there was still something wrong with her breathing. We called our DR in NY who got on the phone with them to explain the same, but they insisted there was somthing wrong with her. Our DR said since he can't hear her we really should just go ahead with it. As soon as the breathing treatment was finished she was still breathing the same way as her fever had not broken yet and the DR said "Okay she sounds much better." We ran out of there so fast after paying a $565.00 bill!!! About 15 minutes later her fever broke and her breathing returned to normal. Of course we missed our flight and that cost us about $1500.00 to change that!! FYI only one parent and the one child are not charged the change fee. Last year at Disney the same dd again woke with an ear infection, we called our DR and he called in a prescription!! Maybe this year we will just bring a prescription with us!! I had no idea that we could have a DR come to the hotel. To us $165 would be much better than what we went through!!

tyandbash....I too, wish I had known there was a doctor that would have come to the resort.
We were staying at the Contemporary last year when my son came down with a high fever about 2a.m. I went to the front desk, not wanting to wait until morning. The CM just handed me a printed paper with local hospitals and health care centers. He never offered any advice or help at all.
I drove my son myself to Celebration Hospital. It was a beautiful place and the admitting nurse was wonderful. There was only one other person in the ER, an elderly woman just sleeping quietly in the next room( I hope she was sleeping!!) It took forever for my son to be seen by the doctor. I am a nurse and work in a hospital. There is a doctor in the ER at all times. There's nothing worse than sitting with a sick child in a strange place in the middle of the night. I figured he had strep throat(I was right). Why it took over 2 hours for him to be seen was beyond me. I could see if they were busy, but they clearly weren't.
If it ever happens again, I will definetly call for a doctor to come to the room.

$165 is a steal!
I know my insurance probably would not cover it, but I'm not sure about the energency clinic either. I know an emergency room visit would be about $300 plus the doctor's fee (deductibles).

I would take the $165 any day. Besides not having to drive anywhere and have to wait in a waiting room with a sick child.
