Is there a discount for AP renewals?

My family is looking into purchasing AP's for the first time. We sure picked a good time to do it since prices are now higher than they've ever been? :duck:I thought I had read Disney offered a renewal discount for AP's in the past. Was that correct? If so, what rate was that historically and is it expected to continue?

Just curious. We're a family of 8 so we're weighing out whether or not it's worth buying the AP or just tickets for multiple trips. I know the old rule of thumb was it was for more than 10 days a year. Now, I'd guess that has changed a little.

Thanks!

I read that but don't understand how that answers my question. I may have done a poor job of explaining my question. I'm really just trying to understand what that renewal discount usually has been or are you saying there is no discount? I understand, especially in the case of California, that they're trying to deter the number of season passes and replace them with single trip tickets. It means more revenue for them. By saying renewal is subject to availability and this gives them the option to discontinue season passes altogether in the future should they so choose.

It answers your first question, "Is there a discount for renewals." Disney's verbiage offers a discount if you click "renew." I don't know historically but the table I saw showed a renewal discount of $124.

Yes, renewals are discounted - by how much depends on the pass type. I believe it's been said to be 10-15% off, but I've never done the math to see if the percentage is accurate.

It's in our computers for the new pass types, so I would expect it to continue indefinitely or at the very least until another major change is made, and no one knows when that will be.

Gotcha! Thanks!

If that's what it is, 10-15% would be pretty substantial for us since I'm already looking at about $7k for our family! Thanks for the info!
