Is there a chicken exit on ToT?

I've read so much about the amazing design on ToT, but I know I'm just too darned cowardly to actually ride the thing. Can timid folks like me cut out at some point - and if so, when? I certainly wouldn't want to hold things up while a CM extricated me from the line. But if I got as far as being strapped in, I'd probably have a full-blown anxiety attack! Any info?

Yep. It is an elevator sandwiched in between the ride elevators. Just ask when the boarding CM asks how many.

Shame you can't try the ride--it's really fun!

I avoided the TOT in 1997, 1998, and 2000. My DS always wanted to go on but I was always afraid.
Last year I finally gave in and tried it. The TOT is now my absolute # 1 ride. We started our trip this past June on TOT and ended it there before heading back to the airport. We rode it 13 times that week and I wish it could have been more!
The experience is awesome and I encourage all chickens like me to give it a try. On the other hand, we only did RnR twice because this is NOT one of my favorites.
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is the greatest experience I have ever been on!

But I have done TOT two years in a row, and it didn't get any better for me... DH loves this ride, so I go through the entire attraction until just before getting on the elevator. He always tries to coax me on, but Forget IT! The elevator operator is very nice, and will personally escort you on a regular elevator.
And I'm 40! I love RNR, but can't do the drops on TOT. Don't be worried, you get to stand at the exit, and watch the TV monitors, so you can see your friends/family photo come up before they get off the ride!

DH loves this ride and tries to get me to ride every trip. I always use the chicken exit!

Yes theres one and I've used it several times! :teeth:

I tried to get my DH to go one with me. But I have ridden ToT by myself every trip thus far! Finally, I got him to go through the ride with me, but when we got up to the elevator he asked the CM for the chicken exit. The CM told him they didn't have one..but then started laughing. He and I both tried to ge DH to go, but he just shook his head. DH told me later, when he got in the chicken elevator, he was really scared the elevator really was the ride too. He said he has never been so scared to get on an elevator.:earseek:

All I could do was laugh. It probably isn't funny to those of you that are afraid, but you have to see the sick humor if Disney let the chicken elevator close, played a really evil laugh and just dropped the elevator. Not a few times, but just one fast drop!

It still makes me laugh!

TOT is my 4 yr old's favorite ride. The first trip that he was able to ride it, we were worried about it--neither my wife nor I had ridden it before. My wife said the whole time he had this terrible look on his face. She kept thinking "what have I done!" Once it was over he looked at her and said "I get to ride again with daddy, right?"

When we went back 6 months later, he was a little scared about riding it, but as soon as he rode it, it was once again his favorite ride! It is pretty funny to see adults fretting about riding then here comes my 4 yr old!

As for the chicken exit, during this last trip, there was a girl probably about 12 years old that decided she did not want to ride after being seated. She was in tears while her family was trying to convince her it was ok. The CM put his character role aside, went up to her in a very courteous tone and said "I will not start this ride if you do not want to ride. Would you like to get off?" The family tried to coax her into staying and even answered for her, but he focused on the girl. When said she wanted to get off, he kindly helped her off and then started the ride.

I was absolutely impressed by the manner in which the CM handled this.

So, I would say until they close the door, you can use the chicken exit.

Thanks to all for the input and great stories. (Even you, onecoolmama - now I'm going to worry about a drop all the way down on the chicken elevator ;) !)

I'm glad to know I can experience some of the amazing theming on this ride that I've read about for so many years. I definitely won't change my mind and ride, though! I can do pretty much any kind of simulator ride, as long as I know it's just simulated. But when they start to really pick me up, drop me down, or spin me around - well, I think everyone around me will be glad that I know my limitations ;) .
