While I was walking this morning I could have sworn I heard a cow. Now, I know that people in my neighborhood can't have cows because of the CC&Rs but I know I heard a cow. . .or a bird that sounded like a cow. Does anyone know of a bird that might sound that way? I know it's possible there might be a rogue cow in my neighborhood, but it seems unlikely. What do you think?

we're both in the same general vacinity so it could be one of those nutty mocking birds i complained about earlier today on another thread. there's one in my backyard that has figured out how to mimic a dog and a cat. so it "barks" at my cat and antagonizes the neighbor dogs by "meowing" at them.

No way! :rotfl:

Yes, mocking birds really do mock other animals. We have a lot of them around here and sometimes it is hard to know when it is the real animal.

I've never heard of one, but I can tell you one thing- I sure wouldn't want to be underneath it when it flies over my head!! :rotfl:

:lmao: Yeah, I'm afraid of birds as it is but if one came flying at me while moooing, I'd probably lose it.

That's just WRONG!

:lmao:

The Mockingbird is the state bird of Florida. While we had them in Massachusetts, here they're everywhere.

I have heard them run through the entire sequence of a car alarm. One day I had my cell phone with me and there was one on the backyard fence. I turned on the ring tone and within seconds he/she was copying it.

Good thing they can't pick up on the human voice. Imagine if you went outside and heard the Mockingbirds chatting with one another and they all sounded like YOU?!!!

I knew Mockingbirds mocked other birds, I didn't know they mocked animals and car alarms, etc.!

That is the way too funny. Ok, if I saw that thing, flying at me while mooing, I would not only freak out, I'd never leave the house again! :lmao:

No...but my new little puppy sounds like a duck quacking. Does that help?

Well thanks to my own thread I got a tag! Thanks Tag Fairy! :thumbsup2

I've been a birder for over 10 years, but I've never heard one sound like a cow. I looked thru my field guides and I can't find one that's supposed to sound like a cow, although a Grebe sounds like it's saying the word "cow". But birds don't always do what they're supposed to, so maybe you found one who didn't say what he was supposed to!
