Just trying to plan for our upcoming trip. I've read that RSR is down at park opening sometimes. When that happens is their obvious signage somewhere, so I will know to get fastpasses instead of attempting to ride first thing?

I would like to know this too! OR is there an app or accurate up to date site that can be used to check?

You will know it is down when you get there and the CM tell you., If you have a ride line AP it may or may not tell you.

The times board may also tell you if it is down.

Right by the Carthay Circle theater there is the "Pump house" that displays ride wait times.

When we visited in July, we encountered this sign one day.

It was right in the middle of the walkway shortly after entering the park.

However, they were big liars that day. We went back around 11:30, and the line for RSR was up and running and PACKED.

From what I have experienced with every ride that goes down, the FP machines do NOT work when a ride is down. They have no idea IF the ride will come back up, so they don't give out FPs during that time.

I was there last week (11/8 & 9) and RSR was down- no signs. It wasn't obvious until we were about 10 feet from the entrance and saw about 5 CMs standing around telling people. I didn't think to check the board at the the "Pump house" because we weren't near there.

We DID get FPs the morning on the 9th even though the ride was down. I actually sent DH and DD (age 6) to ride it and I took DD (age 3) to wait in line with me for the FPs (FYI, it was about a 25 min line, got in line at 8:50am, and got a 12:30 return time FP- they were all gone at 10:30am).

RSR was still down at 12:30pm when it was our FP return time.
We returned around 8pm and used them.

RSR might have a different policy because FP run out so early. It was down this morning at opening (CM said it wouldn't open until late afternoon), but they were still distributing FP like normal. Though, this might be an unusual situation because the return time is posted as 3 pm (they've only been distributing passes for 15 minutes).

RSR does distribute FPs even if the ride is down. I have personally experienced this and if you search the boards, you will see that others have experienced the same thing. That is why it is generally safer to grab FPs in the morning rather than ride standby, since the ride isn't always operational first thing in the morning.

Isn't that odd. It certainly wasn't the morning of the picture I posted! They were actively shooing people away from the FP line as we walked by.

We had a similar experience in Oct when we were there. We were at the gates for 7:00am EMH and they walked us about 3/4 of the way down and then the CM's started saying the ride was down. We walked back up and DH got in the FP line and by 8:10 he had FP with a 12:40 return time. We went back that evening and rode it with the FP.

IME no, there is no signing letting you know, you find out when you get there and the CM's tell you it's down.

RSR was down the morning we went to DCA. The fp machines were distributing tickets as usual despite the closure and unknown opening time. When other fp rides were down during our trip, the particular ride's fp machines were NOT operating.

If you're there at rope drop, CMs will announce any RSR morning closure to the crowd. Its b-i-g news when its closed. We also used the 'Mousewait' app and phoned 'Ask Otto' to check closures for the remainder of the day to plan for our fp usage. I found both these techno ways very helpful for our entire trip.

Another way to check for closures/openings of RSR is to ask a CM. I was told that they can phone the ride and ask if it's open.

As for the child swap at RSR, we used it. The card will allow two guests to ride.
