Is the torch lighting ceremony done every day at the Poly?

Tell me about the ceremony...we're staying there and have no idea what the torch lighting is or when it happens.
Thanks,
Pyedog

I had heard of a lightning ceremony that was to start at the Main bldg and walk around lighting all the gas lamps at the different bldgs. When we stayed there, I forced my DH and DS to return from the parks at dusk to see the "ceremony". They nearly died laughing when the "ceremony" was just a employee wearing a straw hat walking around with a extended long blow-torch lighting each gas lamp. I still get harrassed every now and then from DH and/or DS about the "ceremony".

I am not saying that there is not one at the Poly. I just never got to see it.

If there is one, I would love to know the details about it so I can save face with my family.

The torch lighting ceremony is held on Tuesdays-Saturdays, weather permitting. It is not held on nights with severe thunderstorms or very cold nights in the winter.

It consists of two costumed Polynesian characters. It starts in the lobby with the blowing of a shell horn and info on customs of the islands. Everyone is then invited outside to the area by the valet/bell stand. The original character (female some nights , male on others) plays the drums. At that point, a fire dancer will run around to the front of the Great Ceremonial House and light the torches out front with a hand held torch. He then performs a short version of the Somoa fire dance and the ceremony is over. It only takes five-ten minutes, but I enjoy watching it.

It does not involve lighting torches anywhere else in the resort. Just those right outside the front of the Great Ceremonial House.
