Is the Spaceship Eath wand going away?

Maybe they'll steal the big hat from MGM and put it on SE. They could market it as the worlds largest antenna topper.

Question: Is the Spaceship Eath wand going away?
Answer: Please. Please. Please. Please. Please

Hopefully, this rumor is true.

Next, they can get rid of that monstrosity at Disney/MGM Studios! :cool1:

I actually like the Scorcers Hat and the wand. And besides the fact they wouldn't put the Scorcers Hat up then tear it down a year later. It is just a waste of time and money. Even though I do like the Chinese Theater the Scorcers Hat is a big change and I like change. But I will still miss the wand :guilty: but I will get over it pretty quick. :wizard:

edited to add my 12 yo hijacked my user name and I personally like Mann's Chinese theater better then the hat. Grrrr... children!

Frankly, I'm tired of the whole trite "magic" theme, which has a lowest-common-denominator feel.

YES!

Finally - someone who agrees that too much Disney pixie dust gets tiresome and childish! That wand is an excrescence: yet another example of Disney afraid of scaring people with the word "education" and so they water down an attraction.

Your vocabulary scares me. pirate:

The thing is, they're not in the business of scaring folks away from their parks, and many potential customers are afraid of "educational Epcot"---just watch the Simpsons episode about going to Epcot for the teacher awards.

I agree that there's nothing worse than getting sanctimonious about education; no one likes to be talked down to, kids least of all. But that wand smacks of desperation: "Oh, Epcot is too sterile, too austere, so if we slap a magic wand on Spaceship Earth the park will suddenly be FUN!"

As for the Studios, the hat should be out front, outside the ticket booths. Most people only object to it because of where it is located.

The wand, and accompanying sign, can be viewed as a metaphor for much of what is wrong with the direction Epcot has taken. (Which sotoalf stated very well... I think)

Unfortunately, even if the metaphor is ripped down, the reality of the change remains.

But they should rip it down nonetheless.

Am I the only person on here who would be upset if the wand went? I love it. Anyway its neither here nor there, EPCOT is sooooooooooo boring

Insofar as "education" almost always means "boring lecture," you're totally right, Stitch. Does anyone remember the old EPCOT Center? The old Universe of Energy in particular, with its 30-minute "serious" film about energy that would have put anyone in a high school biology class to sleep.

An attraction like Cranium Command is the direction in which the new Epcot should go: informative and fun.

But the wand on Spaceship Earth still stinks :D

Yes, "educational" can be fun or boring. Walt demonstrated the difference with his True Life Adventures and many science films. At Epcot, the old Universe of Energy ride was a snooze, but it's been wonderfully revitalized with Ellen DeG. Cranium Command is terrific and deserves much more publicity than it gets. One of the things that Disney used to stand for was exciting entertainment that also had educational value. There's no reason why the parks can't still draw energy from that great idea.

I like it.

And you all are reading WAY too much into it. The fact is it cost Disney over a million bucks to build the tower for the millennium celebration and decided not to take it down after the party.

I can't fault them for that decision.

Besides, I like it.

BTW, despised the Castle Cake.

Just wanted to chime in with my opposition to the wand. My hope has always been that it might be gone in time for Epcot's 25th anniversary, which I believe is October 2007. Whatever happens, it can't be gone soon enough as far as I'm concerned.

Also love Jamesbyr's placement of the Studios Hat on the plaza outside the turnstiles. I don't mind the hat in and of itself -- I just hate where it is! Maybe they'll move it someday!

I also want to point out, pre-emptively, that I think that those of us who hate the wand and the hat are not just completely opposed to any changes in the parks; I'd say that I'm only opposed to the changes that I don't feel are for the better. For instance (and not to start a whole other debate) but I love, for the most part, what was done to Tomorrowland in the 1994 rehab. I think that the whole copper and verdigris color scheme and the sort of Jules Verne-type look are a perfect fit for the area, and a great enhancement. I don't automatically dislike it simply because it's not how it used to be. The hat and the wand, however, do not seem to fit and do not seem to enhance, at least to me.

But I'm also sure that some hate the new Tomorrowland look, just as some love the wand and the hat! It all comes down to opinion, I guess. I just wanted to make sure my opinion was known in case anyone who has a say in such decisions happens to see this! :wave2:

The wand was cool for a time, but it has outlasted it's original purpose.

Hated the the whole castle cake thing, was very glad to see it go.

Like the big hat, but don't like the location.

Love Epcot, not boring at all.

Did anyone like the castle cake? That was hideous and seemed to begin the trend of ugly things.
