Is the Spaceship Eath wand going away?

The following was taken from Mouseplanet:
"In addition, while past vacation videos and DVDs have heavily used old footage of Epcot's Spaceship Earth without the enormous wand towering over it, this DVD's videography seems to go out of its way to avoid showing the wand, fueling speculation on Internet sites that the wand may be targeted for removal this year, rather than its originally expected 2007 departure"

I can't tell you how much I hope this is true. All that hand and wand do is make the beautiful Spaceship Earth structure look tacky and cheap. And could they have chosen a worse font for the "Epcot". It was ok for the Millenium celebration, but it should have been removed as soon as that was over.

I wonder what it will go for on Ebay if they do rip it down?

I always thought it was odd that they left all of the structure exposed like that too. I figured it was to cut down on wind shear but I suppose it could be due to the fact it was meant to be long term-temporary. Who knows?

Not to be a cynic, but I wonder (fear?) that the wand will be coming down sooner only because the 'new' ride will shake so much that the wand couldn't handle it...

Any new rumors about 'Time Racers'?

Last I heard was that whatever they do will have to be done with the existing ride track as it is intregal to the support of SE- there is no way to 'gut' SE to put in another ride track. Or at least no cheap way.

But if the big "Epcot" sign comes down, how will we know what park we are in?

Yay! This would be so great. I've always thought it was permanent. Now if something could just be done about the graveyard... ;)

All of the drunk people?

Hopefully, this rumor is true.

Next, they can get rid of that monstrosity at Disney/MGM Studios! :cool1:

Alas, even I cannot dissent as I, too, hope the wand goes away. It didn't bother me for the celebration (nor did the castle cake) but that doesn't mean I want to look at those things forever. Bring back the original SE. pirate:

The big wand always looked like a UFO accidentally dropped it on the wrong park while aiming for the Magic Kingdom. Frankly, I'm tired of the whole trite "magic" theme, which has a lowest-common-denominator feel. And while I'm grumping, don't get me started on that hideous sorcerer's hat that blocks the vista down MGM's main street to the Chinese theater!

We just received the Disney World planning DVD and in some shots the wand is not visible and in some shots (the ones showing Illuminations), it is visible. They could have just been using old fly-over shots of Epcot in the video without the wand. However, a 'live' shot of the tour guide talking in front of the SSE doesn't show the wand, but it may just be the angle it was shot at. I think people are just reading a little too much into this. For those of you who detest the wand, I wouldn't get you're hopes up.

I liked the 2000 sign, but expected it to disapeer after the celebration. The wand is simply ungly and needs to go.
