Is the San Angel Inn Really That Bad?

San Angel Inn was easily the best meal we ate last October. I almost canceled it due to reviews. Give it a try. I'm glad we did!

I second this. SAI is always on our list for ambience and most certainly for the food. The food is what you would find in the interior of Mexico, not your usual tex-mex fare. It also has my favorite steak in Epcot. Take that Le Cellier.

;)

It has been a couple of years since I have been there so things may have changed but I didn't think it was bad. It seemed like pretty average mexican food to me.

I've tried it several times, hoping for improvement since I love the atmosphere. The food isn't horrible but it isn't great.

What is horrible is the service. So slow and so disinterested.

If you have never ate there, by all means try it. We just love the atmosphere so the food is secondary......but the food is good also.

We have decided to give it ago!

As i just love the atmosphere and decor, although we have decided to go for lunch as we feel the menu looks better and we feel there is a bigger selection of things we would like.

Im looking forward to a frozen strawberry Margarita as they look amazing!!

We really enjoy San Angel Inn. In the three times we've eaten there we've never had a bad meal and the service has always been good. I love the margaritas too.

We enjoyed our lunch at San Angel last fall. It was a beautiful atmosphere during a hot day, and the food was good - not bad and not great, but good.

Had a great lunch there in Feb. Beautiful, pretty calm setting, great service, good filling food. One of our best meals.

We went last July and absolutely loved it! My DH still talks about the meal he ate there (the mole chicken). I love that it's not standard "Mexican food" (i.e. tacos, burritos, quesadillas, etc.). It's great that those things aren't even on the menu because I feel that we usually get such a limited experience of Mexican cuisine at most restaurants. Not to mention, the atmosphere is just awesome!!!

As for the service, ours was wonderful!!!! I can't speak highly enough of our server (I wish I remembered her name!). It was our anniversary and she gave us a free dessert AND a handmade, handdrawn anniversary card...it was soooo sweet!

I love Mexican food...but did not like this San Angel @ all!!!

The atmosphere is great though!

For dinner we each had their vegetarian plate which was refried beans and grilled vegetables over a flour tortilla.

I am intrigued by the vegetarian dish you mention. I don't see it listed on the menus posted on this website. Do you recall what types of vegetables were included? Was it more than peppers and onions?

Thanks!

We like San Angel and will be eating there the end of this month.:goodvibes

I think you should go and decide for yourselves. Even in our own family we have differing tastes. My husband and son love the allyoucaneat bbq meal at Whispering Canyon Cafe, I was disappointed. I love Liberty Tree Tavern, my son does not care for it. To each his or her own.

I'm so glad we didn't pay attention to the negative reviews. We thought the food was very good and the atmosphere would have been worth eating there anyways. It isn't texmex, which I don't care for anyhow.

Give it a shot. You'll never know until you try it youself and form your own opinion.

Me and my boyfriend love it! Even if you end up not liking the food, the atmosphere can't be beat!

San Angel Inn has a separate vegetarian menu that you have to ask for. You can see the newest (as of May '09) vegetarian entree in my second set of dining reviews, listed in my signature. :thumbsup2

We've only been to SAI once, in Sept 2008, but enjoyed our meal and I love the setting. It might be the best ambiance of any restaurant in WDW. I'm a sucker for the whole Mexico pavillion, though. Still, we will return at some point gladly.

We have always enjoyed San Angel! The ambiance is great!:rotfl: The tables are a little close though!:lmao:

Go for the ambience, not the food. The food stinks, and that has nothing to do with whether or not it's authentic, tex-mex, or any of the other justifications for why people don't like it. It's just not good.
