Hi all

Kind of a hard question but I have Reservations @ WL standard view already and the Poly has a garden view open for same time frame for about $1000 more. Is it worth it? I know about being on the monorail, and the theme looks great to me, have stayed there before but not since 1974 or so, What do you think? A grand is a lot of money to us but it would not break us either, this is our first vacation in 7 yrs and will be celebrating our 11th anniversary while there to boot.

Should we make the move? Maybe invest the money in Conceirge at WL instead?

Opinions please?

Thanks in Advance Dave

I would say no. Your $1000 would be better spent doing other things. The WL is a great resort. The Poly (IMO) is a touch better, but not worth $1000 dollars. Unless you are dying to stay on the monorail I would use that money somewhere else.

Like you said, the Poly has the monorail were as the WL does not, but the WL's boat service to the Magic Kingdom is not bad at all. It seems as if you are tossed up between the spending of the grand, well first ask yourself which theme is more appealing to you. Now I have stayed at the WL and the Poly, and i prefer the North West theme of the American N. West. As for as room size the Poly's rooms I believe are a little bit bigger then the Lodge. Most rooms call for two queens and a sofa sleeper the lodge does not have that in their standard rooms. So, then you have to ask yourself do I want or need a little bit bigger room and that all will depend on just how long you are staying and how many are going. Now, if you are asking me, If I was in your shows, which I first like to say congrats on your 11th anniversary Since I like the wilderness theme, I would go with the Lodge and either get a conciege room or a room with a different view with out the conciege and use the extra money saved to do all the little things you may want to do at Walt Disney World.

I hope this helped you, but know then which ever you choose, enjoy yourself.

$1000 for monorail rides seems kind of steep to me. You can always ride the monorail loop for free if you really want to by hopping on at the MK and riding all the way around. I've stayed at both resorts and though I enjoy the Poly, I can't say I enjoy it $1000 more than the WL. Unless the Poly is very inviting to you, I'd save the money for something else and stay at the WL. Have a great time!

We stayed at both and I actually like WL better than the Poly. So I would say no, it isn't worth it.

It's a pretty personal decision, but I would factor in how long you'll be there and how many people you have in the room. For just 2 people, I think WL would be great, maybe even better!

I like the Polynesian, but I have bad memories of getting drenched while trying to get to dinner during a rainstorm. You won't have that problem at WL. :)

I like the Poly quite a bit but I'd have to say no, it is not. It is a very nice resort, but go with WL.

I have stayed at both and am voting for WL, along with the other posters here!

Use the money you are "saving" for some treats, like a romantic dinner, surrey ride, or even just Mickey ice cream bars! YUM YUM!

WL layout is lovely, and I agree that when it rains, it is nice to be able to stay indoors to get your coffee or snacks, rather than running thru the raindrops at Poly!

As for concierge .... how much more would that be? We always enjoy concierge at Disney but the cost can be shocking. We are staying at WL and it was going to be 1000 more for a concierge room (7 nights)

Congrats on your anniversary and enjoy!

Happy Anniversary! DH and I will be spending our 2nd anniversary at WL in January!

I agree that it's a personal choice if the $1K isn't a major setback for you. But wow, you could do some great things with it if you stayed at WL....

Dinner at CG during Wishes....
Carriage ride....
Surprise DW with an anniversary gift for a couples' massage....
upgrade to a honeymoon suite at WL and get the jacuzzi!!! :cloud9:

Whatever you decide, have a great trip!

I agree with the majority. I would choose the WL. I know there are many Poly lovers, but I have just never cared for the resort. I like a little more "compact" resort.

WL is so beautiful and relaxing. Yes, the rooms are smaller, but they are set up nicely. The closets are good sized and there are plenty of drawers.

During our last stay at the CR, dh & I both really missed the direct WL to MK boat. The monorail was so slow. (Seems like every trip we made, the train would stop for 5-6 minutes somewhere. We timed the stops.) The monorail is so overrated in our opinion. (Though dd could ride it all day long.)

I have WL pictures on my link below if you'd care to look.

I would consider going to Victoria and Albert's with the money you save. It is a very special, memorable evening for your anniversary.

I personally don't care for the woodsy theme of the WL, probably because I grew up vacationing in cabins in Colorado and the Ozarks. We couldn't afford the Poly so we are staying at the Contemporary. You have the monorail and you can walk to MK. CR is slightly more expensive than the WL, but I like the busy, urban atmosphere better.

We've been to both resorts multiple times. The Poly is my favorite WDW Resort. With that being said, I would go to the WL and save the $1000! :D

Save the $$ and stay at the WL, it's a beautiful resort and you can have a lot of extra fun with the money instead.

I'd consider upgrading the view at the WL....my parents had a very nice view of the dumpster and restaurant loading areas with their Standard View.

In addition to being on the monorail, the Poly has larger rooms. Both are among the best themed WDW resorts (not everyone likes the themes, but they are well themed).

Hi,

Congrats on your anniversery!! As everyone else has said, its really a personel choice.

I had a similar choice for my upcoming trip. We were originally going to WDW Jan. 9 - 17. As I was about to buy the air tickets, DH asked if we could go a little early. "Sure" I almost squeeled. I wasn't sure how much extra money we would have for lodging so I used hotwire to get an offsite hotel for the 4 extra night. Then I worried back and forth over whether I would like staying offsite. So I booked two of the nights at the BWI standard room. As planning continued I realised how much easier it would be to be at the BWI for three nights (dinners scheduled in and around EPCOT) so I added a night. Then AP rates came out. I got the rate for WL but couldn't get the standard room at an AP rate at the BWI. They kept offering me conceirge for about $75.00 more a night. I debated and debated and finally decided to upgrade.

I made my decisions based on whether I could afford the rooms while STILL DO everything else I wanted. I didn't want to upgrade at the expense of other activities, but when I decided I really wanted the upgrade and I had enough money to still do everything else I wanted, I chose to spend the extra $$.

So that is my advice to you. Upgrade to the Poly if you REALLY want to stay there and you'll still get to do all the other things you want as well.

A $1000 is a lot but you did say it would not break you. If time and space were worth money to you than you would spend the $1000 to stay at the Polynesian. The transportation will save you much time over the WL transportation. As nice as the boat ride is do you want to wait for the boat out side and take the slow ride over or shoot over by monorail? Do you want quick access to the TTC and the monorail to Epcot? Do you want a room that is in some cases almost 100 sqft larger and in the worst case 50 sqft larger? Do you want quick monorail access to the other monorail resorts for shopping or eating?

The only thing I would say is I believe the colder times of the year take away from the enjoyment of the Polynesian theme (some will disagree) and the Christmas time seems to fit at the WL better.

There are many here that will say no way to the Polynesian over the WL no matter what so my suggestion is to take the facts and make youre decision. I myself would not stay at the WL for half the price of the Polynesian but you are not me.

Aloha

Steve

I will have to think a little more and talk a little with my DW. For everybody just reading this keep it coming.
