Is the Plaza good for Mommy's birthday dinner?

I will be celebrating my birthday while we're at the MK. While I would prefer to ignore this birthday (I'm not in my 20s or 30s!), the kids are excited to celebrate my birthday. Is the Plaza a good place to go?

Any advice on somewhere better? We're going to be at the MK, unless there's somewhere better at HS to go for my bday dinner. Those two parks are the only options for that day (I guess Downtown Disney is an option....)

Thanks!!

Since you are doing it for the girls anyway, maybe consider CP. FUN for a birthday.

The Plaza is a nice sandwich type of place, and we love going there. However, I would not want it for my birthday dinner (and I'm not in my 20s or 30s either!) simply because a club sandwich is not what I want for my birthday dinner.

If I were you, I'd hop on the Monorail and have dinner at one of the resorts. The Wave, Kona Cafe, Citricos, or California Grill would get my vote.

We like the Plaza and when we were there celebrating my girls birthdays, they were given the prettiest, yummiest cakes they got on the entire trip.
I don't remember CP doing anything special... maybe a cupcake but no singing or anything. Of course, those extras are always hit or miss at any restaurant and you can't count on them.

I wouldnt want to eat at the Plaza for my b day and we have eaten there before. It really depends on your budget and what kind of food/atmosphere you want. I would go for Crystal Palace dinner if you want to stay in the Parks, or else hop the monorail to the Polynesian to Ohanas or the Kona Cafe. Or Chef Mickey dinner if you dont mind the napkin twirling., or the grand floridian cafe if you want something a little more special. Happy Birthday and enjoy your trip.

Well, my birthday meal was to be lunch at Chefs de Paris--but my morning sickness was too overwhelming, so it was a day in bed and hubby brought me home Texas Roadhouse take out.:thumbsup2

That being said--the Plaza strikes me as a fancy "counter serve". It is quite lovely, but very basic IOW. But it could be yummy.

I'd explore the offerings at the monorail hotel and take a midday break for a lovely lunch over there. Or an early dinner so that you can be back for evening festivities.

Much to choose from.:thumbsup2

I can't think of anything at HS that I would patronize on my bday except maybe Brown Derby--but we didn't really enjoy the one time we ate their many years ago and found it to be a bit more fussy than they deserved. 50s prime time might be fun...but embarrassing at the same time, especially since it seems you don't like to make too big of a fuss over your birthday.

While you may not nejoy fussing over your birthday, no reason that you can't do anything special. :)

My next birthday--we may hit a restaurant at AKL. But not sure yet. Boma, I think it is called (or mabye jiko--I don't know.:confused3)

DH is doing Yachtman's for his bday for dinner and my oldest chose CRT for her birthday this year.

If you want good sandwiches and sundaes for your birthday dinner, the Plaza has a nice atmosphere and I've always had good service there. I could see having my birthday dinner there because I prefer less formal meals. It's a good restaurant to dine with kids. But if you're wanting something over the top or something more formal, you'd be in the wrong place. It's really dependent on what you are expecting whether it would be a good fit for you. If you want something a little more upscale, and you are planning on MK that day, I'd check into the restaurants at the monorail resorts and see if one of those appeals to you.

We've had 2 very delicious dinners at the Grand Floridian Cafe (in the Grand Floridian, natch). I had what was possibly the best salmon I've ever had there, and it's a pretty, not impossibly crowded or noisy restaurant. I think it's a good choice, especially if you're on a (relatively) limited budget and don't want to spend what places like Cali Grill would cost. I also think their dessert menu is one of the best in the World. DH had the berry pyramid (sugar-free) and it was delicious. I had the decadent fruit w/dark chocolate fondue. Yum! The only thing that might work against it for you is that there is nothing special for the kids (characters, singing, marching, etc.) and we have no experience w/the kids' menu. Good luck and Happy Birthday. I hope you enjoy whatever you decide.

BoosGram- That sounds like a good option. The kids wanted to know if you had any clue if they'd sing happy birthday out loud. Man- I must love those little rugrats!!

I'd rather do Liberty Tree Tavern than The Plaza, which is glorified CS at higher prices (albiet also better food, but not by a lot).

But if leaving the park briefly is an option I'd second the Grand Floridian Cafe - take the small boat from the dock on the right next to the monorail station when you leave the MK, exit at the GF, walk across the GF courtyard past the pool to the main building and in the back door and the GFC is right there on your right. Lovely place, mostly ignored - a hidden gem. We had a great lunch and breakfast from them on our last trip, can't wait to try their dinner next time.

I like the Plaza but they only have sandwiches and ice cream. The GFC is very good. We ate supper there last year and the food was very good.

Sad to say, but I don't know if they sing to people celebrating their birthdays. If you call them, they could probably tell you or maybe the reservations people would know. Or a fellow DISer. Sorry.

Since I believe that I am a princess princess:(and not in my 20's or 30's) and have two boys (9 and 5) who never want to go near a princess, I would insist on being treated like a princess on my birthday and have dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table. We ate lunch there many years ago when my oldest son was 3 and had a great meal.

In 3 weeks I am celebrating my non-20s or 30s birthday dinner at Narcoossee's. :cloud9::goodvibes :cake:

Thank you all for the advice! I can't seem to get dinner reservations anywhere in MK, except for the Plaza. With your recommendations, we're going to the Grand Floridian Cafe to celebrate! I'm curious about the Plaza now, so we're going there the day before for lunch.

Happy birthday to all you lovely non-20 and 30 year olds as well!! You all made me smile. :)

When I went for my birthday celebration, we ate breakfast at CRT and had a late lunch at CP (which my son and husband loved). We ate at the Plaza on another vacation but my son did not his meal there since you have to young kids I would chose CP b/c it has a good selection of food and they put birthday celebration on the table and give you a birthday cupcake.

I celebrated my birthday with dinner at The Plaza a couple of years ago. The food is very basic, granted, but it is small and pretty and the service I've had has always been wonderful! And the food has always been great. And on my birthday they treated me like a queen! The staff sang and presented me with a special sundae and a little birthday cake. And since I had asked for a hot fudge sundae, they brought me an extra gravy boat full of hot fudge! It was delicious! I have nothing but great birthday memories from that dinner! :) In anycase, have a happy b-day and a great trip!
