Is the Japan candy lady gone?

We love Miyuki and have been the recipients of a enough of her creations that my youngest son now EATS any new ones!

I'm not sure who employs Miyuki, but I seriously doubt that the gift shop is where she's supposed to call to report that she's sick. I suspect that she calls some office and that the word does not always trickle over to the actual pavilion. We ran into a similar issue with Le Mime Roland, a fantastic performer that is, or at least used to be, in France. We asked and a guy in the restaurant made a couple calls, then came back and said he wasn't going to be performing that day.

I would agree, I doubt that the gift shop is her employer and she doesn't have to report to them. As an employee and as big as WDW is, she probably has to call the HR office or main cast member office to call in sick. IMHO it's unfair to jump to conclusions and call her unprofessional. But I would have to say that it was unprofessional not to make a notification that Miyuki will not be performing.

Even if you get to see Miyuki's show, it's not guaranteed that she will make you or your child a candy. She usually picks 4-5 kids and then ends her show. What we try to do is catch her at the tail end of a show, and then approach her. She will usually say that she will look for you at her next show. We love to watch her.

I strongly agree with both of these statements.

I think we can all agree that somewhere along the line, communications broke down. A sign should have been posted where she normally performs indicating she would not be there. For people to spend their precious time at Disney waiting (and she is one of the live acts you wait for if you want her to make you one) for an act that is not going to appear, that's poor. Obviously none of us know who dropped the ball, but somebody needs to pick it back up.

::yes::

There is no way I could believe she would blow off a shift, she's been there too long. No doubt the ladies in the store have her number she probably just let them know when they called her that she was sick, she probably had called in to HR and they didn't get the info out in time for your visit.

To get back on track... We will be there on the 28th and I will take pictures and post them for those who have never seen Miyuki's show. For us it is a must-do at Epcot.

I love that lady. I wAs good candy too. She made an octipus. I probably have a picture of in on my computer if i can find it.

We've seen Miyuki several times now. She has made my dd a unicorn, which got smashed coming home, and a monkey which in now sitting on my dining room hutch, still in it's plastic bag!! We got it in late Nov...so they do last but when it starts to get warm, they do tend to melt.
It is really incredible watching Miyuki sort out who she wants to make a candy for. We got there late for the show so waited around for the next one. Miyuki seemed to know who had waited because those were the kids that got chosen. The second time it wasn't such a huge deal, but dd really wanted to be in the front to get a good view. There were about 4-5 kids pushing and shoving, trying to get in front of those that were waiting nicely. THere were even parents trying to move their kids up in the group, telling them to just say 'excuse me, I need to see better.' I have no issue with a kid seeing better but when there are other children who have been standing there patiently waiting, there's just no need for rudeness. But, Miyuki 'knows all' and those kids never got picked. But, dd did. I've told her that there will be no more candy for her...she can watch but if chosen she is to decline so as to let another child have a chance.
Try to get to see Miyuki...she really is incredible. Very talented.

Ok, we leave this afternoon and we're going to Epcot on Saturday to do the AP preview of Soarin'. My parents have no clue about the candy lady and we really hope to show them her demonstration. This summer she made a shark for ds.

I've seen communication breakdowns many times at WDW. I have many CM friends and when we talk about upcoming events, I seem to have more infomation than them.

We didn't see her in 2003 but definately want to in December!! We need to explore World Showcase more in general- I think we missed a lot last time!
