Is the Hoop De Doo for us?

I'm considering the Hoop De Doo for Dh and I on our trip in Feb but I'm not sure if we will enjoy it.

We have never done the Country Bear Jamboree or Tiki Room because they seem too hokey (cheesy) but I went to Adventurers Club once and loved it. Is the HDDR like any of those as far as type of entertainment / comedy style?

My other thought is to save it for our next trip with DS when he is 10.

Thoughts?

It is a very hokey stage show. But it is funny and a great show, lots of interaction with the audience, the food is very good, and Ft. Wilderness is a great location. One of my favorite things to do at WDW. I can't see someone who loves Disney not liking it. But I am sure there are those that hate it. I was never at Adventurers Club and can't make a comparison.

There's really only one way to find out.
HDDR is completely cheesy, and that's a reason why ppl love it. Everyone knows it's cheesy, this is not some interpretation of sophisticated comedy or dark comedy. It's G - PG rated silliness for extremely cheesy family entertainment.

It might not be for you.

I think it's hilariously cheesy, as it's supposed to be.

I've never seen my 9 yr old laugh so hard in his life when one of the servers slammed a loaf of cornbread on my plate.

We love it, many ppl also love it too. I'm sure plenty of ppl think it's too cheesy, but...it's SUPPOSED TO BE.

In the grand scheme of things, I think it's well priced, as well. Some of the food is pretty good (I'm looking at you, fried chicken, cornbread, and mashed taters, and strawberry shortcake,) and some of it is not (most of everything else) but the yungling is ice cold, and included!

Stuff yourself silly, drink your fill, and enjoy the stupid, cheesy, show. It's cheesy. It's supposed to be cheesy.

Yep its as cheesy as it comes but it is so fun. My wife isn't a fan of cheesy but I think I may be torturing her with this one when we go next summer because well I'm a fan. LOL I remember the food being very very good as well.

As PPs have mentioned, it's hokey, so, if you aren't into hokey, it's probably not for you. That being said, I would suggest trying it when your 10-year old is with you. My DS12 loves it. Visiting Ft. W for the evening is also a lot of fun, IMHO.

Its incredibly corny but it has been a favorite of ours since our first trip in 2006 when one of the entertainers asked me where I was from. I replied Missouri. His answer was a 3 to 4 minute monologue on how we were from Misery. My then 5 year old daughter about died laughing.

You should try Country Bears and Tiki Room, they are included in your ticket and have no queues. Even if you hate them you wasted a tiny amount of time and then you know...
I'm actually hoping to try this on this upcoming trip :)

You should definitely watch youtube video clips of the show and see how you feel about it. It is a VERY expensive meal and I wish we would have done what you're doing ahead of time : think it through in terms of who we are, our tastes and preferences. It just wasn't for us. The show had some moments of humor but just wasn't our style. We don't really drink so that wasn't any kind of bonus for us (though, I can see how the show might have been way funnier if we had downed a few beers)! We were with our kids and they chuckled but nothing to make it worth the huge cost. The food was nice but nothing spectacular. Personally, I would rather go to Trail's End if I want fried chicken.

We love Hoop Dee Doo! Our whole family enjoys it, kids and adult alike. It's a classic Disney experience that if you haven't done at least once, you need to try no matter how "cheesy" it may be.

The first time this jaded and oh so cynical New Yorker went to HDDR it was 4th of July 2017.
I expected little beyond the kids being happy.

Pleasantly surprised by the food. Loved the strawberry shortcake which at the time was baked and served in cast iron skillets thus giving a browned crust. Really sorry they stopped doing that. Copious amounts of fried chicken, spare ribs, cornbread (sweet version), and salad. I think the salad was served first and was mostly green.

As for the show, it was fun ! Yes, it's hokey but not in a cheesy way. The humor brings to mind Warner Brother's Bugs Bunny so it's multi leveled. We've been back to take in the show and dinner twice since then and I no longer feel like a martyr to kids' idea of fun;).

Hoop Dee Doo is for everyone! Sure its hokey/cheesy but that is what makes the experience worth it. Disney in general is the perfect place to let the hokey and cheesy consume you for a little while and unbutton the top button, let your hair down, and just have fun.

It’s super cheesy! My three teenage boys scowled at the idea of it and even tried to keep it up during the beginning of the show but soon they were cracking up and having a great time. And for what it’s worth...we don’t enjoy Tiki room or Countrybear Jamboree.

All you people who don't enjoy the Tiki Room need to turn in your Disney cards right now ; )

Id love to do this but Im worried about my youngest sitting still for a 2 hour show(that seems long even for me).

Completely disagree that HDDR is for everyone! It is a very expensive meal. For that kind of money I would rather experience a true signature meal! People are wired differently. Read every thread on this board and you will see different opinions about EVERY restaurant. I think it is very financially wise to investigate what this meal is really all about to see if it appeals before experimentally plopping down HUNDREDS of dollars only to be disappointed and regret not eating at California Grill or Jiko!

I agree with you - it's not for everyone.
For it being a total cornball dinner show, and not just a meal, I think it's well priced.

This reminds of when we were in line waiting to check in at Chef Mickey's. A lady and two or three kids were in front of us. One of the kids got a glimpse of Mickey working the room, and got pretty excited. The kid pointed Mickey out for the other kids and the lady, and said, "I see Mickey, there's Mickey!"

The lady snapped, with a complete frown, and said, "Be quiet! We are here to EAT, we are NOT here to play with Mickey!"

I'm guessing the lady either wound up having a great time, or hated every second of being there, and was disgusted with herself for paying the price.

It's become an annual tradition for us every Christmas. Its a corny, fun show with a talented group of people- both the performers and the musicians! I think there's a reason that the show hasn't really changed that much in the past 40 plus years... it hasn't really had to!

That being said, there was one instance where we brought a friend of ours a few years back that was miserable the entire time and complained about it the rest of the trip. And that was after the food staff there made sure to take care of his special dietary needs, though in his defense, his complaints were directed more towards the show rather than the food, which he found to be "okay." We were a party of 8 (or 9, trying to remember) and there were a few other first-timers in the group who absolutely loved it, but they also had their twin boys with them, who were 12 years old at the time. We don't have children, but still love the show as some of the jokes fly over the kids heads! Still, that experience made me realize that the show isn't for everyone, so maybe watch a couple of videos online to get a true idea of the spirit of the show.

That friend still questions our devotion to HDDR, but others question our devotion to WDW too, so you kinda get used to stuff like that.

We went almost 10 years ago, and my then-6-year-old son was invited to participate on stage. He still talks about it! We loved the show; really liked the food; and my FIL and me appreciated the beer!

(Couldn't get the quotes to work this time so I cut and pasted myself) Chris Benton said, "This reminds of when we were in line waiting to check in at Chef Mickey's. I am not sure how what I said reminded you of this clearly miserable woman! I love to laugh, and loved Chef Mickey's when my kids were little. Just because I don't have your exact sense of humor doesn't mean that I (or others who don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a hokey show) am a miserable party-pooper! The OP wanted opinions and there will not be just ONE!

Is the show really a full 2 hours long? I have a 5 and a 3 year old so I'm hesitant. I think they would like the show if it was 30 minutes, but 2 hours seems LONG.
