Thirteen different SSR contracts for sale on The Timeshare Store website alone (two pending). I haven't been paying attention to resales lately but that number seems high for a brand new DVC resort.

Oh well, at least the sellers aren't taking a huge bath like most of the people who end up dumping their timeshares.

From what I've been reading, this happens quite a bit when a new resort is opened. There is buyers remorse and people end up selling very soon after purchasing. Since Disney is only selling SSR at the moment, there is an increase in these contracts on the resale market.

It will die down once a new DVC is built and that resort will be the target for new bashing. From what others have been saying, even the beloved BWV took a big beating when it first opened...

Ditto!

We've seen it before,we'll see it again.

Double ditto.

It's now been 20 months since SSR went on sale. Call it what you will: buyer's remorse...change of life...change of plans. There are a lot of reasons for selling.

I work with a woman who went to Orlando about 4 months ago, went to a Fairfield (?) presentation and ended up buying immediately. The couple is now filing for divorce after 10+ years of marriage and battling over who will get stuck with the timeshare. Takes all kinds... :rolleyes1

Probably not enough to offset the additional..ahem...baggage. ;)

That sounds like some serious impulse buying.

I'm not worried about the SSR resales. I'm happy with our purchase!

I hope they don't try to sell the Fairfield points, talk about taking a bath or resales!

I think it's safe to say that that honeymoon is over.

I just have been lurking here for the last few months with not much to say - but me and my DH are cracking up with this thread! :rotfl2:

A couple of random thoughs:

1) Many of the TSS contracts seem to stem from divorce.

2) From another thread, I heard that this lady getting divorced, is leaving her husband because of a Special Assessment on the Vero Beach points they bought, based on bad advice from somewhere I might add!

3) Their latest fight, which lead to # 2 above, occurred at their stay at WVL. They checked-in, were told that all of their requests were met, but the room was being cleaned. Guess what? When they got the room, non of their requests were met. It was THE room without a balconey, and it smelled of steak, cooked precisely medium rare! :smooth:

Hey rinky......

I need some more cowbell too! (It has been a stinky year, goodbye 44, hello 45, please be better!)

Divorce....or job loss.

I think a LOT of people buy while on vacation without thinking the whole thing through. "This is the best vacation we've ever had! We should do this every year!" And then they stroll by a DVC book, plunk down $15,000 and are happy.

Then they get home. And they realize that they can't do it every year. They can't afford it. They need to visit their parents in Arizona. The kids have committments to school activities. Disney was great, but didn't we all want to go skiing next year? The "you can go all these places" turns out to be not a great deal when they start looking closely at the points. And they decide that DVC isn't for them.

I've met a few people who bought DVC during their first WDW trip. And for a few its worked out. And for others, Disney hasn't kept the charm after two or three additional trips.

Help yourself, there's plenty to go around.

I've seen dozens of resales for ALL the DVC Resorts---I think it's more that folks get in to things and life changes on you, let's face it, it happens---divorce, financial problems, and death----so I don't see a "resale" as a reason to start doubting a resort.
