Is the "hail-mary" pass REALLY acceptable?

Brian Noble...we must have attended the same parenting class! You are encouraging your children to "act up" if you take them out of line for it! My kids get the same treatment. If you act up once, you get a warning. If you act up twice...YOU'RE OUTTA THERE! ...and if you keep it up? You will find yourself in the hotel room!

It seems to me the issue isn't so much a little one (under 5) needing to use the bathroom, it's more the 1 adult gets in line, and everyone else joins that person near the front. If your child is over the age of 5 and cannot wait in line, don't go to Disney. It's not the place for you. My kids have always been made to wait their turn. It's a valuable lesson, one a lot of adults could learn as well.

I agree with this. I have taken DS at 3 and 7. We didn't have any problems waiting in line even though he is ADHD. We did the "potty" thing before we got in line and never had to get out. When he got tired, we left and rested. It seems that a little common sense can go a long way with this issue. You don't have to do it all at once.

While I do not normally like it, I understand why it's done. HOWEVER, I can not stand it when there's just ONE parent standing there, then suddenly the entire "family reunion" shows up to get in line with them. I talking anywhere from 7-15 people. THAT is a little ridiculous.

I think the real reason behind many children "acting up" (ie: melt downs) in line, or where ever Disney World, has a lot to do with heat, increase in physical activity (especially in this era when so many kids are in such poor shape), dehydration, exhaustion and lack of sleep. Combine this with the excitement of being in Disney & it's understandable how the big rush of adrenaline involved in hustling from ride to ride all day can occasionally lead some kids to the boiling point.

Therefore, I think that removing them from that situation, and giving them some rest, a chance to cool down, nap & collect themselves is the right thing to do. It's not being a meanie (even though I know you meant it jokingly). I think this is a great way to teach a child how to recognize their own limits. But I wouldn't necessarily say to the child that they blew it, and that it was their fault that they were back in the hotel room taking a nap. I would take responsibilty and not push them to limits that can break even the most docile adults.

So I agree, not only should the line be left, but maybe a trip to relax & recharge is in order. Or the next line experience may be even more terrifying.

Our last trip to WDW we were in the line for Crush ...it was a long, long line. We waited in line (DH, DD 14, DD 2 , DS 15 special needs child and myself). DS started to kick his wheelchair and get fussy so DH took him out of line. DS can get loud when he is waiting even though we have toys etc for him. Sometimes the wait is just to long. We could have used our Guest ASsistance Pass to skip the lines for DS but we don't use this unless it is outside in the sun where DS CAN'T wait because of medication reasons and then only DH and DS use it the others wait in line. DH spoke to the 2 families behind us and explained to them what was going on. They were great. DDs and I started talking to them to see where they were from etc. About 15 minutes later DD had to go potty. We had just started potty training. My DD took her potty leaving just me in line to hold our place. DDs returned and when we got up close The CM let DH and DS back into the line using a different opening. I really didnt see a huge problem with this as I stayed in line the whole time. I talked to the 2 families directly behind us (I know there were many others behind them but I could not expalin to everyone). I don't consider this cutting and I would not be upset if others did this. I know someone here said make sure you get drink and go the bathroom first....well, this does not always work with a young child.
