Is the French Quarter really closed?

I just heard the French Quarter is closed for renovations. How can that be? Wasn't it just renovated in 2001? I also heard it may be closed because it's slow. Find that hard to believe too since it's Disney's busy season and they have the Fairytale packages going.

First off - welcome to DIS!!!

Yes, POFQ is closed for room renovations throughout the resort. In 2001 they renovated the food court area, but not the rooms. They were also doing POR at the same time, but due to the volume with the FTP, that has been put on hold, from what I understand.
