Is the Flip a good choice for a 7yo?

DD is obsessed with wanting to make movies and videos so I was looking at video cameras. I got a Polaroid on Black Friday, but finally am finding some reviews and I think I'm going to take it back. For one, but the time I buy memory the price is more anyway. So, I'm looking at the Flip Mino for $99 or the Ultra for $120. Is one a better choice than the other? I'm also just a little hesitant to spend that much on a camera at this age. Will we be satisfied with the quality and ease of use/editing for a pretty smart almost-7yo?

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

I got three refurbished Flip Ultra's for $59/each. DS8 and DS10 each have on and I carry one in my purse at all times. It is great to take short videos of things. I took it skiing with us last week and videotaped the kids, and I have used it for their piano concerts. We still have a regular video camera but the flip is easy and convenient and I tend to use it more!

The flip is very cool, I'd have loved one of those when I was a wee-one. I loved taking pictures as a kid but the film development was expensive as my family was pretty broke and $.50 allowance was hard to spend on development costs :p I think that's the first time in my life I dated myself :p

Don't do anything embarassing around the kid!
