Is the FL/GA border still closed?

Charley entered the US right through my mom's backyard in Punta Gorda. We are thinking of driving down to help with the clean up, but do not know what the situation is regarding the border. Last I heard, they were not allowing cars to cross over into FL. That was yesterday. I do not know about today. It is not likely we would arrive until sometime tomorrow. I would think that the border would have to be open by then. Any thoughts? Thanks.

PS--prayers for my mom and her DH would be appreciated. We have not been able to reach them.

I live about 10 miles from the Fl/Ga border and haven't heard of it being closed. My dd went down to Panama City last night with the church youth and the only problem was a fallen tree across the road. We didn't get the wind, but the ground is pretty soaked. If I hear anything, I'll post it here.

I live in North Florida I never heard anything about them closing the state...or any of the roads in.

Haven't heard anything about the border being closed. However, the local news here in SE FL is asking people not to head to Punta Gorda since the devastation is widespread there and many of the roads are inpassable making Rt. 41 practically a crawl.
