Is the ecomony making everyone crabby?

I have to wonder if that is what is happening. In the last 2 days over on both the resorts and the theme park boards, there have been so many negative posts.

One guy was mad that he couldn't get cake "to go" in the Disney Studios, so he wanted to sue Disney. Or get free park passes, or a ticket upgrade. Cause it was because of his race that he couldn't get cake "to go". Another woman found a pill in her bed, and was very upset. Which I can totally understand, it is very scary what could have happened if a child had found it. But this woman didn't throw the pill away, even though she had a child in the room with her. She instead waited 3 days until a manager would come and throw it out for her. They apologized, and gave her son a goody basket. But she still wants to write a letter about it, but not because she wants something. Right. Oh, and she posted a pic showing the pill. It was wedged in between the bed frame and the mattress. Not a place that gets inspected on a regular basis, I'm thinking.

Then today there is someone threatening to sue Disney because the tree was not up at the Mvmcp they went to. And a person who thinks that only people who stay at the monrail resorts should be allowed on the resorts monorail. Doesn't want to have too share the monorail with people staying at the other resorts.

Sue, give me, sue. Is that all people know anymore? What is wrong with people? Are more people now than ever looking for an easy buck? Is the economy making everyone a little nutso? I feel the pinch too, just like everyone else. But to sue because a Christmas Tree wasn't up? Give me a break.

I can handle cranky people (don't you and I fall in to that category, OP? ;) )

What is driving me crazy are the ones spreading crazy rumours about the economy, with no supporting evidence or links, and claiming that they are the truth. The Chicken Littles are the ones who really are having a negative impact on the economy as they spread fear and encourage others not to spend.

So far this week I learned that the President-elect will raise the price of gas to $7/gallon on January 21st, Starbucks will close all stores after Christmas, and the 10,000 employees who work at Pop Century will be laid off when the resort shuts down soon.

While there may in fact be some underlying truths (yes, gas was once forecasted to be $200/barrel, yes Starbucks closes underperforming stores, and yes WDW has a contingency plan to cut costs) these rumours that are posted have no evidence to support them. And when pressed, the posters cannot provide any facts.

Cranky people don't necessarily impact the economy, but the rumour-mongerers definitely do. To me they are no better than trolls and create actual damage in real life, not just on the internet.

I wish that everyone would just take a deep breath (me included), and RELAX for a few days. We will all feel better for it.... :)

Well, I'm sure crabby! I don't want to sue anybody, but I'm cold, I have a huge zit on my chin that will not go away, and I'm always tired and I never have the energy to clean my house. Bah!! Crabby, crabby!

I'm trying Bavaria, I really am and I wish I could just dismiss my problems to fear mongering but.... being laid off, watching my 401K disintergrate, watching my sons college tuition fund go down the tube (and of course he's a senior so I have no time to recup) sorry, those are not rumors that's my reality.

I'll tell you what I'll go out this weekend, spend up a lot of money to stimulate the economy and see if it makes me feel better on Monday. If I don't can I send my bills to you? that would make me feel better..

This has been a tough year for us. Somewhat financially, but more so other things. I'm definitely crabby, and the daily reports on the economy tanking are not helping my mood. Even our priest seems to be having a spiritual crisis, and I usually get a lot of comfort from my faith/church when I hit a bad spell. I like gospel music and pray daily, but I think I underestimated the power of our church in my life, as opposed to faith alone.

This whole automakers thing has me really scared. No one in our family is working in the auto industry, but still I really feel for the families, because it could be any of us. DH works in manufacturing, so I feel a sort of kindred spirit.

But that is my point - there are billions of people around the world in exactly the same situation. I think that you would be hard pressed to find anyone on this website who hasn't felt severe pain due to the current situation.

So I don't understand why some people would then want to make that pain worse by creating more fear. I just feel bad that they are scaring people who already feel so bad about things.

Eliza, I do sincerely hope that you find a way to make yourself feel better. We all do that in different ways, and I am not trying to patronize you.

I just don't understand people who seem to be taking pleasure in stirring up people who are already feeling so down.

Xanax anyone? :lmao: Seriously, I had to take one a few minutes after getting to work today. People around here are nuts :scared1:. I hadn't been here 5 minutes before 3 people were on my case about one thing or another, I was shaking all over and almost left, then I get the e-mail about all these stores closing that has been around for what months, come on people settle down a little :scared1:

23 days can go by fast enough, so I can go to Disney and find something wrong with something there and sue them :rotfl2:

The guy who wanted his cake to go was funny.:lmao: Entitlement issues, anyone? I read the thread about the pill, too, and I guess that one just struck me as odd.

I am just cranky in general. I worked a TON of overtime last weekend and I have worked late every night this week. I feel like I have been run over by a bulldozer. I am tired, and grouchy. It is getting cold outside, there was nothing good for dinner, and I had to help DS type an essay that is due tomorrow so I am just now getting a minute to myself. And in a few hours I will get up, take DS to school, and go BACK to work! I haven't watched the news in days - lots of things could happen and I wouldn't know unless someone posted them on the DIS.

Yep - I definately think the economy is making people cranky. I know that I'm crankier. We're having a really rough time at work. Since Oct we've had layoffs, pay decreases, Monday they suspended 401K employer matching. Every week we're losing something. It's just miserable right now - me, my co-workers, the whole place.

Then you come home and watch the news or read the paper and it's even more depressing.

Add to that it's gray and freezing and snowing where I live.

I think I might just take a sick day tomorrow and try to pull myself out of my mood while the kids are at school. Clean and get ready for Thanksgiving. Make some cookies, take a nap.

Sorry for whining. I guess we all just have to hang in there. Things will get better eventually right? :confused3

YES! There will be an end one day. Everything ends eventually. Every minute which passes brings us closer to the end.

(I'm German, I'm not supposed to be the cheerful positive one, and have no idea how I ended up with this role! :rotfl: )

well, if i say, i am feeling good, and life is good, then people will say i am uncaring and think i am better than everyone else. so i am staying out of this thread, and let the cranky ones have their say.

Nah! People have always been Crabby...everyone was just too busy spending $ to notice.;)

I think the more likely scenerio is, WDW is a huge corporation and there are a large amount of "neer-do-wells" who want something for nothing.

certainly we are all stressed out and some people handle stress well and others don't. It sucks for those that have to work with the general public and feel the brunt of this stress.

I wouldn't think that. I think it's good to hear people who are thinking life is good and things are going well for them.

For me, being right smack in the middle of all of this is getting to me and bringing me down. And when it's all that broadcasted on the news, you feel like everyone is going through and it makes it hard to feel hopeful. So when I hear or talk to people who are feeling and doing good, I actually feel better because it's hopeful to hear those words. :flower3:

That''s a great thing to be (positive personality) and things are looking up or at least I have a plan of action which at least takes away the "helplessness' feeling.
I guess I just don't agree with so many post that seem to insinuate that the economy is some type of "figment" of my imagination brought on by watching too much TV or who always say "well back during the depression it was much worse" I sorry, I'm proud of American history as much as the next guy but knowing things were worse 90 years ago doesn't make these problems go away.

BTW I too think things will get better ;) but I also know it's going to be a long haul with a lot of people devestated.

On a day-to-day basis, I feel more anxiety and sadness than usual, thinking about how people are being affected by the economy.

But, I really am trying to stay positive - and if that means turning off the news and "burying my head in the sand," then so be it. I also try to do things that cheer me up - baking, watching funny, light movies, reading "fluff" books, cuddling with my DD, etc.

Everything ends. We will bounce back. I'm just trying to hunker down and stay cheerful until we do. :)

But I don't know why you barked at me (well, yes, I do understand - you are stressed as are most of us, as is most of the world which deals in currency) Believe me, it doesn't have to do with being American, either. Anyone who thinks that people here, elsewhere on the internet and elsewhere in the world isn't suffering is deluding themselves. Your story is the story of millions of people. No, that doesn't make it easier for you but you are not the only one going through that.

I wasn't referring to the threads about things being a figment of the imagination - I was referring to threads which are like 'whisper campaigns', giving out misinformation as fact. Those campaigns are usually started to undermine a business or industry. The retail 'going out of business' untruths is a good example - many companies are now NOT getting business due to false internet rumours.

That makes me angry - it is wrong information yet there are people running around spreading those rumours, adding more fear and causing even more issues for more companies.
