Is the Disney Train super crowded at rope drop?

In my "daily plan" I am thinking of getting right on the train at the front gate and riding it to Frontierland, then doing Splash Mountain and Big Thunder ASAP--so I can save my fastpasses for later. This won't give us any advantage over the walking crowds if we miss the first or second available trains due to overcrowding. Anyone try this and have advice?

I've never seen it busy. More often than not you sit and wait on the train for more people to get on. Unless you have a mobility issue I would just walk over. They have rope drops at each of the lands and they escort you to the lines to avoid a stampede. Not sure but they may hold the train in the morning for the same reason. We've never had a problem riding BTMRR 5+ times in a row with no waiting in the mornings including Thanksgiving week and Spring Break. Shouldn't be a problem no matter how you get there.

You're welcome! We usually use the train to save our feet if we are going from frontier land to future world or if we're leaving from the back and exhausted. It's a nice break from crowds and walking. Not sure if it ever saves time.

As PP mentioned, I wouldn't count on it saving any time in the morning, you are probably better off just walking. We just use the train as a way to save our feet and get out of the heat partway through the day, I doubt it ever saves us time.

It won't be crowded in the morning because everyone heads for the major rides (and they tend not to use the train to get there, because it usually isn't faster.)

This is very true. We have tried various combinations to avoid the rope drop rush, walking there is the quickest. (if you are able)
