Is the DDP and a discounted room possible?

Hi,

I recieved a code for discounted room rates through my company, its a pretty heavy reduction, but I'm not able to add the dining plan apparently. Is this common for discounted rooms? I figured Disney would want you to add it no matter what.

Yes, it's extremely common. Only one discount per reservation, except possibly on a package booked through AAA.

Most visitors need to decide if the 40% (or other) discount is a better saving that paying rack rate and getting the Disney Dining Plan.

Sigh, I just saw that other thread about the 40 percent off deal and dining. My company discount is about the same, but we can't add dining on this one. Ty for the info though :).

If you are staying in a moderate resort or higher, you might want to consider renting points from a DVC member. In many cases, the price for the room actually comes our cheaper, and the member can add the dining plan for you without any ticket purchase required. You would pay for it at check-in.

I considered that, it was quite daunting looking up all the info though, I'll look into again.

I was able to book the Yacht Club for 40% off and add the dining plan.:cool1:

The basis for this is that the discounted rate is normally a room only rate. In order to have the DDP you must book a package with tickets.

The reason people with the 40% discount could have dining is because Disney had 2 codes - one for room only w/ 40% off and a second code for a package with DDP and tickets that gave 40% the room portion of the package.

Did you check if the discount from your company can be used for a package reservation - if it can you should be able to add the DDP for the normal charge.

Which hotel(s) is the discount good for?

Ya, i looked into it. They only have a room only code which would explain why I can not get the dining. We get discounted tickets though too, so I suppose I'll just have to go without the disney dining plan. Its ashame, I liked it so much.

Thanks for all the info regarding how it works Trekker.

The discount is valid for every Disney property hotel at WDW. The percentage seems to vary by hotel though, they don't tell you what the percentage is, they have to check each hotel individually each time.

If I got 40% off Poly in August and they asked me at the time of booking if I wanted the DDP/ticket package because I could do it with the code I had, does that mean if free dining came out I would have both the 40% off room and the free dining? I thought I had to choose one or the other so I declined the package.

You would not get both the 40% and free dining. At the Poly my price with the 40% was equal to what I would pay if I booked at rack rate and recieved free dining. You probably got as good as it will get too. At the mods and values free dining will be a better value than the 40% deal.

I was just wondering cause a couple of my friends got discounts through work and they were only good for swan/dolphin which would exclude the dining plan reguardless of the rate.

From what you've said here, it appears that you can get one of the following:
40% off room only;
40% off room rate plus a regularly priced Disney Dining Plan; or
rack rate plus free dining.

Usually, you can only get one discount (on room or on a package) but in the case of certain PIN discounts, people have been able to book two discounts at once -- the 40% off room rate plus a 'discount' in the form of paying for the dining plan (which gives you a discount because it's cheaper than paying cash/a la carte for your meals). It doesn't seem possible to get 40% off the room *and* free dining.

I think a lot of ppl are not reading the entire thread. This has nothing to do with the 40 percent off promotioin :P.

Its a coporate discount, that is between 30 and 50 percent depending on the resort and availability, i was just unsure how the system worked. My only option appears to be discounted room or no discounted room and ddp.

Thanks again though for letting me know how it worked, I very much appreciate it.
