Is the Contemporary ok?

Hi everyone :) We made our final decisions for our room block and had a hard time deciding which resort our family (and we) would stay in for the 2 days leading up to and a few days after our wedding. We knew we wanted to be on the monorail because our wedding is at the WP and our reception is at the Cali Grill. My Fiance and I don't really like the Grand Floridian. It's too 'old lady house' for us. My family has stayed at the Poly and it was about $100 more/night than the Contemporary. We LOVE the newly renovated Contemporary room pictures that we've seen, however, the hotel itself doesn't have much 'ambiance' and you never read much on here about people staying there. Plus, it doesn't seem very 'honeymoony' to us, but we didn't want to have to switch hotels for our free wedding night because it will be late after our dessert party and we'll be exhausted. Any thoughts from anyone? Has anyone else chosen the Contemporary? How was it? Has anyone stayed in the new rooms?

We are staying for a few nights after our wedding too for a short honeymoon and can't decide if we should stay at the Contemporary or move over to the Beach Club (which is about $45 more a night.) What are your opinions?

Thanks :) :) :)

i personally love the contemporary!!!! me and my fiance are staying there for about 2 1/2weeks when we get married!!! i am so excited about the new rooms they look very nice to me.i am just hoping that all the rooms will be renovated by then and we will get in one that is!!!! we stayed there last year in one of the old rooms and we still loved it!! it was convenient and the rooms are a nice size!!! i love it we plan on staying in the tower this time with a magic kingdom view i think it would be very romantic to watch the fireworks from the room!! also we went out side at night on the 14th floor and looked at the castle and park after it closed it was very romantic we did that every night before bed!! but it is disney and i am sure whatver you choose you will be happy with!! :goodvibes

:goodvibes Thank you! You've made me feel better. We were worried about getting a renovated room too. I asked Pam, and she said she would make a note on our wedding party reservations that we would prefer the renovated, but like other things, it's only a 'request.' It's the only thing that's really worrying me. Also, I noticed a little surprise in our contract if you want me to PM you about it regarding our wedding night :)
Thanks again!!

Yes if you could PM me that would be great i am so curious now!! yes i am also worried about getting a renovated room also!!!!! it has been on my mind i am crossing my fingers!!!i thought that maybe since we would be on our honeymoon they would make sure to get us one!!! lets hope so because those rooms look sooooo nice i love them!!!! :goodvibes

It is my mother's favorite hotel. One of her fondest memories is being the only one awake, looking out the window and watching the castle at night. It is just a different theme.

I have not stayed at the Contemporary (but I hope to next year). I think that the newly renovated rooms look GREAT, and you certainly can't beat the convenience with the monorail as well as a walking path to the Magic Kingdom. Perhaps you could reserve a tower room with a MK view--the pictures I have seen of people's views of the castle are amazing! I have also heard a rumor that Disney is renovating the concourse area as well to give it more modern ambience. Hope that helps some! :)

Thanks! I really do like the 'new' Contemporary so much! I just hope it's done by July 12, 2007 ;)

We totally enjoyed our stays at the Contemporary. We stayed there for 2 nights prior to our wedding in a regular tower room with MK view. Last year we stayed again, this time 14th floor and it was a FANTASTIC room with a big balcony and we watched Wishes 3 nights in a row from it.

Thanks! I'm glad the tower is so great because we will be staying there on the night of our wedding, however, we can't really afford it for the whole stay so we are taking the wedding discount option and staying in the garden wings. This is what I'm worried about. Anyone have experience in these? We are deciding whether or not to stay there after the wedding for our honeymoon or move over to the Beach Club and pay the extra $45/night.
Thanks again for everyone's comments. It's making me feel better :thumbsup2

We're splitting out honeymoon stay (in Dec.) between BWV (DVC owners) and Contemporary Atrium Club. I've been fortunate to have had many trips to WDW. DH has never been. After viewing the planning DVD, I asked him in which resort he'd like to stay. He chose the Contemporary. It's always been a sentimental favorite for me (stayed there several times with grandparents when I was growing up), so it was fine with me. Also, my sister is a disney travel specialist (travel agent specializing in Disney, actually have found some people here on the DIS who are her clients!). She toured the renovated rooms last year and told me they were awesome. I've heard the tower is basically complete as far as renovations (except the 14 floor) and the south wing is complete. The north wing has not been renovated yet and it's also rumored to be converted to DVC units. Granted these rumors haven't been confirmed, but it's the buzz I'm hearing anyway.

Thanks! That's what I've heard too (about the North Wing) so I'm hoping that if they aren't going to renovate, they tear it down and start the DVC process before we get there. I would hate to be one of the last ones to stay in an old room before they tear it down.
