Is Tangled Better than Toy Story 3?

I'm kind of scared to watch Tangled. I *hated* Princess and the Frog, and most of the Disney movies that came out in the last 10 years. I thought Toy Story 3 was just OK.

I'm too emotionally attached to TS3 to be able to compare them. My oldest son grew up on Toy Story and had so many of the toys. Now he is a senior in high school and were parparing him to go to college. Loved the movie and cry every time I see it.

I feel that way about Tangled too. Disney has made several stinkers in a row but it would be nice if Tangled was really that good. The ads sure didn't give that impression but who knows?

I think TS3 was the better movie---to me, it was more meaningful and had a deeper story than is usually seen in an animated movie.

I did enjoy Tangled but I think it's better compared to a movie that is more similar--a lighthearted musical. After recently seeing Beauty and the Beast again, frankly, it had nothing on that movie, either. The music in Tangled was ho-hum and had no songs that I was still humming after the movie and the characters were pretty flat. I liked it and I'll probably watch it again at some point but I wouldn't buy the dvd.

I really liked TS3 (I'm a guy also), but I have to say that I was blown away by Tangled. I really didn't expect much from the previews, but I couldn't believe how good it really was.

The movie really held the attention of everyone in the theater. They laughed, they cheered, they were wide-eyed at one particularly beautiful scene (those who saw it know what I'm talking about), and the girl a few seats next to me was sobbing towards the end.

As far as experiences go, Tangled outshone anything I could have imagined. It may not be Beauty and the Beast, but I sincerely believe it is one of Disney's best.

I was very sad to read in the LA Times a few weeks ago that this is the last "fairy tale" that Disney is planning to produce for a long time. Apparently they feel that girls are more into being "trendy" than being a "princess" and that they need to do more "boy" movies.

Oh well, if that's the case, then at least Tangled closed the book on the Princess movies with a bang!

I'm a guy (and the OP) and still found Tangled to be slightly better. Don't get me wrong, TS3 has an incredibly powerful final act. Once they escape from the day care, head to the incinerator, and get delivered to Bonnie, the film shines even brighter than some of the best Pixar moments they've ever created.

However, until it got to that point, I was a tiny bit bored. Not a lot, but a little.

TS3 is still an excellent movie -- a B+, in my opinon. Tangled just worked a little better for me in terms of story flow and (surprisingly) humor. It gets a slightly better A-. I must say that I do think part of the reason I enjoyed it a bit more is because I was expecting nothing. The commercials and previews didn't make it the least bit appealing to me. But, somehow or another, I was won over by the whole thing.

Totally agree.
Personally I think Princess and the Frog was better than both of those two. But I do agree that the closing act of Toy Story 3 was very good.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Tangled and plan on seeing it again while it is at the theaters but I have such an emotional connection to the whole Toy Story franchise there is no way I can compare the two movies.

I loved TS3. Buzz and Woody has been part of our lives for years. We went as a family and my sons are 20 and 25. I was very emotional since ds2 has been away at college and we don't get to see him that much.

We just got back from watching Tangled. We loved it. we laughed a lot and loved the music. It is on a different level than TS3. This was pure enjoyment. Every movie is different. This was like watching a good musical.. I loved the cruel mother but then I love villians.

If you want to see one of the best sidekicks of all time go see the horse. He is a riot.

We are hoping to catch tangle on one of the days the girls are off before Christmas. Since there are such good reviews here, I think we'll like it.

I agree. I liked Tangled. A lot. However, it's not really fair to compare the two when the only thing they have in common is that they're animated. If one wanted to compare them, though, I'd give it to TS3, hands down. My DBF and our friend, both 25, were choking back tears unsuccessfully. The thought of the scene when they're headed toward the incinerator and grabbing heads...TEAR UP just thinking of it!

For those who mentioned Princess and the Frog-- I thought it blew Tangled away, personally. I loved the soundtrack and the plot kept my attention. Loved it.

THIS!!!! I seriously want to hug all the designers and animators and voice/sound people who worked on Maximus the Wonder Horse! He's brilliant!

I'm not going to decide which is better, Tangled or TS3. I enjoyed them both very much, and I agree with the PP who said they really don't have much in common other than being animated.

For those uncertain about Tangled - I was very underwhelmed with the first trailer I saw. Pop songs, yuck, and lots of snarky Shrekiness - I did not have high hopes. But it turns out Disney really was just trying to sell this to tweens and boys who wouldn't see a "Princess" movie - and ha, guess what, it is a Disney princess movie with musical-type songs! Much more charming than I expected. It's no Beauty & the Beast (which I would still hold up as the best post-Walt Disney film), and the songs are not the most memorable, but they're enjoyable and work within the film. (I actually really like the PatF songs, FWIW.)

Agreed! Soundtrack was great. Storyline was wonderful too.
