10+ year AT&T user finally thinking of making a switch to a new network. There's a phone I love that seems to be only on T-Mobile. I was wondering how the call quality and reception/coverage is. Any input would be appreciated.

I've been with T-Mobile for the past six years. I have no problem with them. Their coverage seems good and their rates are not that much different from most providers.

We just switched from AT&T over to T-Mobile and cannot wait to be able to switch back! We HATE t-mobile! We've had nothing but trouble with their customer service, everytime we've called to ask anything we get the runaround for at least an hour. Our call quality is terrible, i'm constantly having to ask people to repeat themselves, and DH's phone drops calls all the time.

We switched because we could get more (unlimited text, data plan) for less than we were paying for service with AT&T, but we're actually paying more now anyways. We are very unhappy with t-mobile.

If you think AT&T is bad, T-Mobile is worst, by quite a margin. Now, there is always going to a city/location where any carrier shines, but on an aggregate, T-Mobile is definately second tier.

Where I live, the coverage is fine.

Their customer service? A whole different story. It is awful. We can't wait to switch to something else when our contract is up.

I was with T-Mobile for about eight years. I always paid my bill in full in on time, and I bought a new phone every year. I never had a problem with customer service....until I called to (politely) ask what I could do after finding I had no reception after moving.

The first time I called, I was hung up on/the call dropped. The second time, I had a really rude person on the phone who told me it was my fault that I was driving on the roads I was and that I didn't have service. I should take a different road to work. I told him I didn't have options, since there was only one route I can take to work. He told me that's my fault for working where I do. He told me that they don't have to provide any service (ummm.....they are a service provider....if they don't provide service, what exactly are they doing? :confused3) and blamed the issue on me. I asked to speak to a supervisor and he refused to transfer me, telling me that the supervisor would only tell me the same thing he was telling me. In hindsight, I should have hung up on him since apparently it's okay for them to drop calls, or called back and reported his terrible customer service.

After the hour long call of him blaming me for expecting to be able to use the phone I was paying $100+ a month for, I was able to get my service terminated (for the full termination fee, of course). He said I had phone calls on my record. Um yeah, from when I was across town. NOT from my work, my home, or anywhere on my commute.

The kicker was he told me if I decided to come back to T-Mobile in the next 90 days I could get my phone number back. I told him in no uncertain terms that after this I have NO plans to ever go back to T-Mobile.

RUN do not walk away from Tmobile. :scared1: DH and I had them for 2.5 years when we first got married. We only switched to Metro PCS about 3 or 4 months ago and we have had far better call quality and service area with them then we ever had with TMobile- and we're in CA.

We purchased phones from Tmobile that allowed us to hook our phones up to the WIFI for better service connections- they ended up cancelling discontinuing phones with that ability so that when DH's phone broke he was unable to replace it- they then switched our plan to another that wouldnt work with our remaining WIFI phone, and I kept getting overchatrged about 200 bucks every month- having to call and have them fix the charges etc until finally somebody caught the error- we had been told this new plan would work with our WIFI. They also extended our contract by 2 years without our consent.

Long story short I finally had to threaten to sue Tmobile before they allowed us to switch providers...

Never again Never again.......................:headache:

It all depends on where you live. I've had T-Mobile for 6 years in the Cleveland area and wouldn't switch. I don't remember the last time I've dropped a call, the call quality is good, have never had a billing problem, and have never gotten less than great customer service when I've upgraded. I just upgraded to a MyTouch 4g today in fact (for free too) and since we are an HSPA+ city my data speeds are great.

If your city has good T-Mobile coverage I think you'll be happy with them.

NOT a T-Mobile fan here either!

I used them several years ago and we had to evacuate our town from a major hurricane. We relied on our cell phones to keep up with family and friends. Many homes in our area were damaged (including ours). We were gone several weeks before we could return.

THEN, I got my bill. It was over $250!!!! I called and explained the situation to them and the reason I went over our minutes. They said "well, you should have called and asked for more minutes" - I said "oh, sorry, I was much too worried about my home being destroyed and finding family members to call and worry about CELL PHONE MINUTES"

The SOOOO didn't care. AT ALL!!! They would not BUDGE! I had to pay all that $. :sad2:

Many friends, with other cell carriers, got their charges waived. I switched as soon as I could.

I use AT&T now and LOVE it! Wonderful customer service! :wizard:

Wow to all the bad T-Mobile stories! I've only ever had T-Mobile and i never had any of those issues, even with Customer Service. I hope I don't get jinxed now!

We've been with T-Mobile for many years. Before it was T-Mobile it was PowerTel. I think we've been with them since 1991.

We haven't had any problems, and we've always gotten someone nice in customer service except once. The only serious problem we had with coverage was in Yosemite. Normally, if there's no T-Mobile coverage, the phone will switch to something else. Well, it wouldn't switch, and we couldn't MAKE it switch, although we could see the option for AT&T on our phones. We called T-Mobile from our friend's phone. The guy proceeded to tell DH that there was NO coverage in the park. Well, DUH, we are talking to you somehow! Finally we got it sorted out and we got coverage, but DH had to get rude with the guy. :sad2:

We have been able to upgrade our phones every two years, and get free phones for our girls when we added them.

We don't have any problems with dropped calls. I will admit we don't have great coverage inside our house, but that's because of where we live. We even got coverage in Yellowstone. :lmao: My parents called and when I answered they said, "Oh, you must be in the room," and I said, "No, we're out hiking!" We couldn't believe we had coverage out there. I have a great pic of my kids talking to their grandparents in a geyser basin. :thumbsup2

Check this map and see how the coverage is where you are:

We have had tmobile for 5 years and I feel no reason to switch. There are times when I am in the basement of a large building and don't have service, but it so rare that it is worth the cost savings. We pay $94 a month (with taxes and fees) for four phones and unlimited texting.

Thanks to all who responded. T-Mobile sounds like it could be good if you live in the right area but it's a shot in the dark. Thankfully they give you 30 days so I'll see how it goes for me personally. :thumbsup2

Remember, it's not just where you live, if you travel at all, look at the common places you travel, routes you take, etc.

I wanted to also let you know that for the rest of today all smart phones are free after rebate.

If you are in and around Orlando most of the time, you will be fine. T-mobile is very strong in FL except for a few areas around Tampa. My mother has T-mobile and is usually in Casselberry, Winter Springs and Sanford and has never had any problems. We were condsidering switching from Verizon but they just don't have the coverage in NY like they do in FL.

Do realize that AT&T and T-mobile is a gsm provider and you buy there phones unlocked and unbranded.

Can you tell what cell phone that want T-mobile. I may be able to find a unlocked branded version that would work with AT&T phone.

The first place I would check is with amazon on unlocked phones. Then I would check ebay.

I have done research any T-mobile phone can be use with AT&T phone sim card as unlocked and unbranded.

I have lusting over LG Optimus T myself and is planning buy it for myself.

This, except I live in the NJ suburbs of Philadelphia. I've been with TMobile for about 8 years now. Also just upgraded to the mytouch 4g. I have ALWAYS had outstanding customer service, which is more than I can say for Verizon.
