Is SWA the only airline that doesn't charge for checked baggage?

I have been checking some other airlines like Delta and AA and they charge $25 for the first bag per person and $35 for the 2nd bag per person. That's expensive and insane! We were wondering if any other airlines in addition to SWA offer free baggage. These airlines seem to nickle and dime you these days.

Jetblue allows the first checked bag for no charge. Second checked bag gets charged.

If you book AirTran flights through the SWA web site there are no baggage fee's

Jetblue! and Jetblue also lets you choose your seat assignments when you book your airfare.

You really do have to price everything out these days don't you ? It is just smart to know what you are willing to pay more for vs what is already "bundled" into a fare.

SWA and Jet Blue don't charge for the first checked bag I have also read that you can book AT via SWA and get the free checked bags but you have to wait for seat assignments until day of travel, FWIW I personatlly would not take that chance. We are a family of 3 and can usually do fine with 2 checked bags and one carry on with essentials for all of us for the first 24 hours.

When booking you have to look at checked bag fees and allowed weights, carry on bag fees, seat fees/early check in fees, and figure out what really is the best value for your travel $ and family makeup.

Sometimes a fare looks cheaper until you realize you have to pay for seat selection - sometimes that is as much as you would have paid for checked bags! IMHO you really do have to do your research and purchase based on the options that mean the most for your family.

I am helping my MIL book a trip right now and it has been interesting as her priorities are very different than mine. I find myself researching more and trying to make sure I get it right and make it as easy as I can for her.

True - I was trying to keep it simple but yes SWA gives each ticketed passenger two free checked bags !! Thanks for clarifing

If you have an airline branded credit card, a normal perk is a free checked bag.

Active duty military and family members traveling together get free checked bags, as do active duty military traveling alone on many US airlines.

Frequent fliers at the higher levels usually get a free checked bag.

Unfortunately none of those listed apply to us. This is for domestic travel from California to Florida.

Sometimes, it's still cheaper to go with a discount airline and pay a baggage fee.

DH and I went to Disney via Allegiant in January. The airfare came to $500 total, and we paid for seats and one checked bag each way. I couldn't come up with anything else comparable on the other airlines that fly from my airport.

Some airlines say they don't charge for bags, but really, it's just included in the price of your fare. I prefer the fare structure that Allegiant uses...I like to be able to customize my fare to what I need/want and not be paying for things I don't need to be buying.
