Is Superstar Television about to get a rebirth?

I dont remember this attraction. Our 1st trip was late 99. Of course we didnt see everything anyway. It sounds really cool. Hope the rumors are true.

In 1997, I got to be in the skit with Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show. It was so much fun. It was one of the most fun things I have ever done at WDW. I hated so much to see it go. I would love to see it come back. Now that I think about it, I wonder why they had skit with a NBC show? Oh well, I'm glad I got to be on it.

Disney's first association with a TV network was with ABC, which was one of the financial backers for the construction of Disneyland. That association lasted for quite some time, and was followed by a period during which Disney was allied with NBC (possibly having something to do with GE's involvement in EPCOT Center). During the late 80s, this association had grown beyond the weekly airing of 'The Magical World of Disney' and Touchstone TV was producing many of NBC's most popular sitcoms. It was also at this time that the Disney-MGM Studios was opening, so NBC shows (along with more classic shows from CBS -Gilligan's Island, I Love Lucy) were included in the SuperStar Television show. Many of the original attractions at the Studios park tied-in with non-Disney-owned properties. Disney did not re-associate with ABC again until the 90s (after a very brief flirtation with CBS).

oh, those are great memories....I was thinking they could use Live with Regis and Kelly aren't produced by buena vista productions with is in relation to disney..just a thought

I used to love SSTV. In fact, it was one of my favorite attractions. I was never in it, but I loved watching the different people and how they played the parts. It also brought back some great memories of shows gone by. The reason it closed was because Disney had to pay licensing for every show they used, which they said was too expensive, especially after Sony stopped sponsoring it, so since then it was Doug Live, which didn't last too long and now it's just an empty theatre that they use for various functions. Since they now own ABC, I could see it making a comeback using the extensive ABC library. They wouldn't have to pay royalties and it would not be a very expensive to run as an attraction. Hope it does.

I too was picked for a scene once. It was the golden girls and my girlfriend at the time was in the I love lucy bit. It was fun and I am sorry that they did it in.

The Doug show was also fun, my oldest just asked it about on our last trip.

I hope they add some something quickly- to me there is nothing worse that a big, abondoned and dark structure at the parks. I think Walt would never have let that happen, but for now

It is an eye sore

I miss that show. I was in the moon landing one. reading the cue cards. Lots of fun. Why do they always remove the good ones.?

Yes I too liked this attraction. My son was picked when he was little to be in the Bonanza scene. He had on a cowboy hat and was on a horse. I always wished I had a picture, but they wouldn't let you take pictures. Thanks for the memory.

I was there the week MGM opened, and my dad got picked as one of the Three Stooges. We have it on tape somewhere. Ahh...the memories. :(

Right before Superstar TV closed for good, I was picked to be in the General Hospital scene. I played opposite an elderly lady who was suppose to be my cheating wife. My scene had me appear at the open apartment door in a trenchcoat while she was on the phone with her boyfriend. They did a closeup on me at the door surprising her and giving my best incredulous look. It was hilarious! I had a blast! Don't tell anyone, but my real wife even snuck a quick picture that we still pull out when we want a laugh!

I was reading your post about your experience at disney world on the superstar tv show and I think the elderly woman that played along side of you was my grandmother. She was very dear to me and is she is no longer with us. Do you have a picture or a copy of the tape? It would mean so much to me and my mother. THANKS!!!!!

Yea, that was one of the better things at the Studios. As usual, Disney has a tendency to get rid of popular pavilions and replacing them with crapola. There hasn't been anything decent in this spot since Superstar TV closed it's doors. A pity................:confused3

Unfortunately, Disney did not allow video taping or picture taking at the attraction. My wife was able to sneak a photo from a good distance, but I am not sure how well it would show your grandmother as she was sitting on a couch, I believe. We will dig through our pictures and let you know.

Sorry to hear that she has passed, but she seemed to be a marvelous women from the short time I spent with her, and I am sure you have many fond memories.

I started reading this thread without realizing that it was started 7 years ago. The first indication that something was amiss? I found myself reading a reply from ME! I never post!

In any case, by way of review:
Superstar Television = Good
Sounds Dangerous = Horrid

See yuz in 7 years............
