Is staying on site A MUST for June 2014?

Hi the last two summers we visited IOA/US we stayed on property for a night to maximize FOTLA. We marveled that we really did not NEED to have stayed on site. The lines were not bad at all. We felt we could have just drove over from WDW and been fine. however, we always went June 8th or so....

In 2014, we plan on June 16th to go....I realize Potter part 2 may or may not be open. Assume NOT. Do you think we could get away without staying on property and have minimal lines during this week? Thanks!

I'd say, assume SO, and stay onsite. If HP2 is going to open in summer, it very likely will be in softs by mid June.

That's entirely too close to the most likely grand opening date of around June 17th, if you base it on the fact the original Wizarding World opened June 17th, 2010, and the big media only event was the evening of the 15th. You may be right in the middle of all that for Daigon Alley. If that date DOES get announced, very likely all rooms will be immediately booked up.

With educated speculation, it does make some sense the soft target for opening would be the 4th anniversary, so based on that STAY ON SITE, grand opening day it may literally be impossible to get into the studios until very late in the day.

People were lining up at IOA the night before for the grand opening last time, and they stopped letting guests in the park around 7-7:30 am until others left, and yes the park's official opening wasn't until 9AM that day, but they let people in to line up MUCH earlier, and that line snaked through the entire park and out the front gate all the way back to the theaters at Citywalk.

I was there, we lined up at the end of Jurassic Park, but bailed to watch the ceremony at the screens they set up at port of entry. I walked back to see the lines outside the front gate, and remember being shocked at how many people were still out there. They were snaking people through everywhere and the line still went on.

I have never seen anything like it before or since. If it's even half as busy as it was then for Part 2, stay on site, while you can, is most assuredly the better option.

Op here. Well I was there opening weekend in 2010 and it was INSANE. We loved it but oh boy I dont' want to repeat it.....UGH....Maybe will book on site now but will cancel if that is the opening weekend and just skip IOA this time around!

HP2 is located in the Studios...not IOA. There will be some shuffling back and forth on the Hogwarts Express but no one really knows how it will work.

We are planning to do our first visit to universal the first week of June in 2014. I am seeing some talk about HP2 opening in mid June. Any chance there could be soft openings prior to that?

It is way too early to tell.

Agreed. Way too early with the magnitude of construction. I'm sure they have only a vague range with the unknown factors that could crop up. That being said, I was there the last week of May/first week of June 2010 for the soft openings. It was one of the greatest strokes of luck I could have imagined. Die hard HP fans will flame on this, but I got bored with the area by the end of the week because there were so few people and everything was so accessible. I have my fingers crossed for you.
