I posted earlier about credit problems and we got approved with a little more down. We downsized from 200 points to 170 as well. WE have all the papers, but im having second thoughts about sending them in and joining. Is it a good time to join? Airfare seems to be high, and a lot of WDW attractions are closing. We could use the down payment for other stuff and have no payments for DVC if we dont join, but we would like to be members. We just dont know. My wife said if i want, we will, but its up to me, since i talked her into it. Help me decide!!

I think you have to keep repeating to yourself,

"It's 40 more years, it's 40 more years, it's 40 more years...."

We keep seeing on this board virtually every day a thread with a title that begins "Just got back from a great trip home to [your home here]".

Yes there will be ups and downs over the next 40 years. But I believe the magic will still be there through good times and bad.

Too much pixie dust in my eyes? Could be. All I know is that quality vacations with my family are a higher priority than ever before.

Good luck with your decision.

Well, it looks like you tend to vacation at WDW at least once a year. If you expect that you'll be continuing to do that for the forseeable future, you've made an excellent choice for sure.

Granny mentions the posts that talk about their great trips recently. Overall, a trip to WDW is still a fantastic experience. When you read the boards you sometimes start to worry about things that aren't really as big a deal as they seem here.

Early entry and E-nights have been curtailed. They may be back in the future. Personally, I've never made much use of them and have still had wonderful trips to WDW. When you know you'll be going back to WDW it's not as necessary to cram everything into each trip.

Attractions closed? Well, they do change attractions every once in awhile. At the time, some people see it as a great tragedy (Mr. Toad's Wild Ride) but it's soon forgotten when something new comes along to replace the old attraction.

I'm not sure about the airfare question. Right now there are unbelievably inexpensive air fares. But, that's a result of market changes. Right now no one can predict what the future holds and how the airline industry will end up. That's an unknown but I think it will work itself out in the long run.

I wouldn't risk other family expenses but if you can swing it, like you would swing buying a new car or planning a deluxe vacation, then I think you'll be happy with your decision.

Assuming you can afford it, now is a great time to buy in. Word on the street is that the economy is actually showing some signs of life, retailers did not over order for the Christmas season (and therefore unsold inventories are not high), the Fed appears to be done lowering interest rates, and Beach Club will be on line in a matter of months. Don't look back, you made a well timed decision.

Our DVC box showed up on my door Nov 2nd. I had it signed and notarized and returned by Nov 7th. They had the paperwork back to me saying my loan has been approved by my birthday - Nov 13th. We decided to go ahead with it. We consider Disney to be more than just the parks. A big family trip is very good for the family and for the marriage.
On our last trip 5 weeks ago we once made it to rope drop at the regular opening time. Never once to early entry.

OK..........I'm going to get the one paper notarized today, then drop it off at Fed-Ex. Thanks for the replies!!

One thing you can take some comfort is that if you want out, you can sell your points on the resale market. People are buying those, it isn't a permanent decision. Do you think you will plan vacations for the next two years? If so, go for it, two years of vacation will have you hooked and glad you made the decision. we have always been very pleased, and end up adding on regularly.

Papers are all on their way to Florida......wish I could fit in the envelope with them!! Thanks for all the replies......now we just have to get finalized and finish sending in the deposit!!

I can't count how many times I've seen posters say they wish they had purchased sooner. DVC is the one thing that keeps going up. As mentioned above, in a few years the resale prices would probably be what you'd be paying now, so you could sell then and probably not lose.

It has also been speculated about how much the points will cost when Beach Club goes on sale. Estimates (that means guesses) vary considerably, but you can almost be certain they will cost more than buying now.

Well, you've sent in the paperwork, so I guess that makes it pretty close to official. So let me be the first to say:

You made the right choice. I just returned from a non-DVC trip (ASSp and DD Hilton) and although I could see and feel the cuts it was still Disney. Things will get better and you will "own part of the magic".

Please let us know when we can all welcome you home!
