Is my Thrifty rate too good to be true??

Dewy--Although many companies try to honor mistakes in pricing a quote that shows $0 for an extra day may very well be the kind of mistake they could easily get out of. A reasonable person looking at the quote would realize there was an error.

I'd print out your next best rate with Thrifty and with another agency. That'll give you an idea as to the maximum you should be willing to pay. I'd say anything in between might be fair

A special THANK YOU to the poster that mentioned the AU02 code for the thrifty rental car. I also got a weekly rate or $169 for a minivan. I'd actually tried that same code a day or two ago, and did not get as good a rate, so it pays to check periodically.

My big question is what is the AU02 rate? Will I actually have to show some proof of being a member of something? I see a note in the fine print of my reservation that says:

Wal-Mart card qualification: Customer must have $600 available credit and estimated amount of rental. Renter must be the Primary Wal-Mart Account Holder.

And I vaguely think I remember the mousesavers site mentioning wal-mart. Anyone with experience using this code?

Some have mentioned that they did not have to show anything? Did they use a wal-mart credit card?

Lewisc -- Thanks for the advice. It's a very logical backup position.

I just can't help thinking that if it was truely a mistake they would be obligated to contact me before I show up at their counter...especially since I booked it two months before? I'm a reasonable person and I know mistakes happen. With all of my contact info available to them waiting to the last minute to let you know there is a mistake takes away other options like booking at at on-site company. It also would feel like a bait and switch tactic.

Dewy, Do you really think someone looks at each reservation to carefully see if a mistake was made? Do we agree there was probably an error made? $0 for an extra day. Bait and Switch is part of pattern. Have you heard of this happening to anyone else? Maybe you were playing with the pick up an drop off times and one of your changes didn't stick.

You could call them up and they'll probably thank you for giving them the chance to correct the error. If you show up with the quote I think there is a good chance they'll honor it. I don't see any upside to calling them now. I had a problem with National a few years ago. They had assigned to different reservations to the same confirmation number. CSR's though I was crazy and not reading the number correctly. I went through 3 different levels of supervisors before I got someone in data processing who was aware of the error (which they were trying to keep private) and could take care of it.

If concerned about your Thrifty rate, you can go to www.thrifty.com and go to menu at top and check/change your confirmation.

I was concerned about my $111/week rate for an Intrepid so I checked yesterday and it says it's good.
