Is my ds (9) getting too old for Disney pj's?

I was wondering what kind of pj's to get him for the summer and I can't help thinking he is getting a little to old for (buzz lightyear)pj sets and such. What do your boys wear for sleepwear in the summer? Maybe just some t shirts and boxers?

T-shirts and boxers are good :)

What does he want?

My DS age 8 will still wear his mickey t-shirt with boxers to bed - but NO pj sets, disney or otherwise!

I'm 35, and I still wear my Tigger pj bottoms. If I had a shirt, I'd wear that too.;)

If they make these sets in his size, don't they expect people his age to wear them?

On the other hand, DS may wish to distance himself from cutesy items due to his growing up.

My oldest DS (9) usually just wears t-shirts and boxers in the summer, but would wear some Stitch pj's if I bought them. That is the type I bought him this winter and he wore them all the time. I did give him the choice and let him pick them out if that is any help for you.

I wouldn't send him to a sleepover with Disney ones, but he can wear anything he wants at home. Also, older boys usally don't wear sets. Clothing boys is a funny thing -- I have three, so I should know. There's a few years, from early adolescence to mid-teens, when wearing cartoon characters seen as babyish (Sponge Bob is probably okay, Nemo would pass but not Mickey or Pooh characters) will invite taunting. Then, by 16 or so, it's cool to wear cartoons again. Both of my older boys -- 16 and very cool and 20 and a college sophomore -- have Ninja Turtle shirts. And the 16-year-old wore his Sponge Bob pj bottoms to school for some spirit week event.

Adults, of course, can wear any cartoon character they want.

That is what we do too!
I did get DS a Mickey t-shirt where Mickey is skate-boarding, and he has not had any problems at school with that one.

My 8yo nephew will NOT wear pj sets of any sort...character or not. He just wears a random t-shirt and his boxers around at night, but I think he just sleeps in his boxers....he always gets hot. I gave him a cool t-shirt for XMas that he loves...POTC....didn't even try characters since he's so funny about them these days.

Me, DH and our kids all wear them :) But mine are only 1.5 and 3 so they don't really have a say yet!

My DS, now 11, started getting away from cartoon clothing around age 8. He also got big enough to not fit into their largest boys sizes soon after, so it was a moot point. He likes the boxer and soft white cotton tee around the house and for sleeping, too. And those cost a fraction of Disney PJs!;)

I still wear them coming up on 58! I guess 9 is still okay.::yes::

Comparing this age to what adults do is a moot point. I will wear a Disney nightshirt but my 11yo son will die first!

WE know who we are, they are just developing their identity.

As tar heel said there are some characters that are "cool" while others are connections to being a "baby". My sister bought my son a Spiderman backpack after he said NO CHARACTERS, and that one was borderline OK.

I think you should ask him. Michael doesn't wear pjs, just a t shirt and underwear but if your son wears them ask him his preferences. They change frequently from this age upward so an open line of communication helps a lot! :p

My DS 9 wears a tshirt and boxer briefs to bed. He won't wear any of his Disney tshirts unless we are at WDW. He told me they were too babyish but at WDW nobody cares.

When we pull up to his school he makes me turn down the Disney music!

Wow, you're lucky if you can get your DS to wear pajamas at all! Mine is also 9 and he hasn't worn pj's for YEARS! Just a t-shirt and undies...some nights not even the shirt. Now DD who is 5, well, that's another story! She has mostly Disney pj's. :)

Pajamas are the only thing with characters my 7 yo boy will wear.

Last fall, he announced to us that he will not wear character clothing anymore. When he was littler (3, 4 yo), it was all he wanted.

Now all of his clothes have to be plain or sports-themed.

He hasn't complained about pajamas though--yet.

My Mickey PJs are in the wash right now. This 48yo is not quite ready to give them up just yet. Perhaps when I turn 50, I'll change my mind.

I have 3 DS's 11, 9, and 6. The oldest one has given me a list of "approved characters"

The Fab 4 - (Mickey, Donald, goofy and Pluto) are acceptable if it is an "adult" style (i.e. something Dad could wear). Tigger and Grumpy are also OK depending on the style.

Comic Book style super hero stuff is acceptable, but cartoony, babyish stuff is not.

We walk a fine line.

DS9 wouldn't be caught dead in ANY Disney clothing.

Alas, my big boy is officially a big boy. :(

{{{sigh}}}

He wears a plain tshirt and boxers to sleep in.
