Is MVMCP just too crowded to try?

Hi! My family of five is sailing of the Dec.17 Magic. I REALLY wanted to fly down a day early and go to the MK. I just realized this will be a MVMCP night and wondered if we should try.
Will it be too crowded? Is it worth the extra $ to do the party? Would we get our money's worth if we just went in the day? (I can't imagine not staying for fireworks and parade :sad2: ) Please tell me what you think. Thanks!!

In your case, it may be worth it. Tickets to MVMCP allow you into the park from 4pm to close. You don't need to pay for any other ticket media if you won't be going to a park before 4pm.

If you just want that WDW fix before your cruise, go for it.

I did my first party in December and was disappointed. Yes, the festivites were well done. But I won't be rushing to spend nearly $200 four our party (4 adults, 1 child) to do an event like that again. We already had APs for everyone, so our MVMCP tickets were an extra expense. It was so cold that we only did a couple of rides. We did get some good photos with the characters (they were everywhere), and enjoyed the holiday parade.

I dunno...I guess it's one of those things that we wouldn't have been satisfied until we tried it for ourselves. I know a lot of people really like MVMCP...but I could take it or leave it. We had a much better time at the Osborne lights, which didn't cost a penny more than MGM admission.

Like the above poster, I did my first in December. It was great seeing the shows and the parade was beautiful, but I don't think it will be something we'll want to do again.

Since the 16th is a Friday night, and most Friday night MVMCP's sell out, it will be pretty packed. I went on a night when it was very crowded last year, and while we had a wonderful time, I felt like we didn't get very much accomplished. We saw Mickey's 'Twas the Night before Christmas, the parade, and the fireworks, but we only made it on a few rides (which was fine because I don't go to the party to ride the rides).

If you really want to see the parade and the fireworks, then definitely go! It's well worth it. Just make sure you stake out your spot early for the parade. I personally think going for the parade, fireworks, and shows is worth the price of admission.

Just as TLinden said, the 16th MVMCP will be every crowded with a lot of locals atending the party. However, if this is really something you would like to experience, I say go for it!!! Everyone must experience a MVMCP at least once. As a matter of fact, this past December we attend 2 MVMCP because we could not do everything in one night. Reason why we attend 2 was because we did not want to rush through the party and we had our DD4 with us who simply had a blast with the shows and everything else to do.

I say GO FOR IT!!!!

It is very crowded but you'll need to go to one just to quench your curiosity. However, I regret for buying 3 MVMCP nights within one trip this past December. It's good enough to experience once (especially if you're from an area where there is no snow), but more than that, IMO is just a waste of $$.

We went on the last two nights in 2004. Friday night was pretty crowded but if you get there early you will have plenty of time to ride the rides. We loved the snow and the decorations, it was so beautiful.

Yes, i am in agreement with you on this, we too went in december, will not do it again

Maybe the later in the month you go, the more crowded it is. We have gone three years in a row the week right after Thanksgiving. We get to WDW on Sunday afternoon and have gone to MVMCP that Tuesday all three years.
The weather has been great and the party was not crowded.
We had a blast every time and will go back every year.

Go for it! We went on what turned out to be a very crowded night, but I'm still glad we did it for the experience!

Thanks for the replies!

If we go all day before the party (if I could talk dh into two additional tickets on top of the cruise!) would the park be as crowded during the day? Meaning, would we be able to do rides fairly easily during the day and then just enjoy the party that night?

You will be able to do all the attractions without any wait. When we went in the beginning of Dec., the longest wait was about 10 min. As a matter of fact, the fast pass system was not even being used because the crowds were light.

Have a great day,

Personally, I think it is worth the extra money. It is a really wonderful and fun party. We went to the party two nights before a Disney Cruise 2 years ago and can't wait to go to the party again this year. It was so much fun and a really great way to start off our vacation.

HAVE FUN!

On MVMCP days, the park is open to day guests until 6pm. By 6pm, if you do not have a separate ticket for MVMCP, you will have to leave the park.

If you just have a MVMCP ticket, you can get into the park anytime after 4pm.

So, if you want to arrive at the MK in the morning and stay through MVMCP, you're probably going to spend in the neighborhood of $100 per person. If you can wait until 4pm to enter the park, your MVMCP ticket will be sufficient (about $35 per adult). Or, if you are comfortable with leaving the park by 6pm, then you can get by with a Hopper or MYW day.

My guess is that the park won't be terribly crowded earlier in the day since it closes so early to day guests.

We did MVMCP this past Dec 2 and had a great time. We loved it so much we are trying to take whole extended family back w/ us in 05 or 06, (looking more like 06 now) Crowds were very light and the decorations and theming were terrific. We really enjoyed the shows and extra things not there the rest of the year. We were there on a Thursday night and I know they are not as crowded as Friday and it was early in Dec but if you are going mainly for the Christmas/holiday themed events and get there early I think you will be fine.

Was it enjoyable?
Definitely!
Was it crowded?
Absolutely!
Was it worth the money?
For us it wasn't. We had AP's and were there for two weeks.

As the days in the park went on, I realized the only thing we would have missed out on by not attending MVMCP was the complimentary photo and the free cocoa/cookies. I was dissappointed to realize that every special Christmas show from the MVMCP was available during regular park time as well. All that said, it was a great way to start our Christmas holiday vacation! If your time is limited, this is a great option! If you only plan to be at the MK for that one day, I would do the party and save all the shows, parades, etc. for evening enjoyment. Stick to rides during the day so that any rides you work in that night are just gravy. Being able to see the shows at night is great! However, we won't do it again if we have AP's.
