Monday 1/19/04-Martin Luther King Day
That morning in the potty I discover two distinctive differences in a handicapped room vs. the regular DVC room. Difference #1- My feet dangle.
I'm only 5 feet tall (okay 4ft 11inches) so I feel like I'm four years old again and I should wait for my Mom come in to help me any second. She doesn't so I figure I ought to hop down and begin getting ready for the day.
The second thing I notice is that since there is a real lack of counter space, but no lack of floor space, Big Al has made a makeshift counter out of a luggage rack topped off with a tabletop ironing board. The sink just hangs from the wall with no counter around it and there is no place for our toiletry kits, so he has made a place. He is so good at improvising!
We get ready and we head off to the Animal Kingdom to meet most of my family who flew down for the wedding.
For those of you following these threads, I'm sorry to report that at this point in the story, NO- the marriage is still not official. We woke at 8:30 and had to meet everyone at 9:30 so there was only enough time to get ready and leave, although Big Al suggests we show up late....I hesitate for a moment, but figure they'll know what we were doing and I'll never hear the end of it.
As we enter AK I spy my Dniece Steph-8 with her Dad-DBIL off to one side. they are with friends of DSister's who moved to FL last year-The Florida family-- Lori, Brian and their two DD's who are 8 and 2. DSis loves to do the parks with a crowd, even though Big Al and I always tell her this is not the most efficient way. Big Al's not real happy, but I remind him it's only one day and then EVERYONE goes home on Tuesday.
And WE get to stay until the 30th!!!(good news for us, bad news for you if you're following these reports- sorry!) Since we are in a crowd we decide the best thing to do first is a show, so we head to Tarzan Rocks!
We get hearded over to the right side of the venue as we enter and our crowd begins to take seats halfway down, while there are still plenty of seats available up front. "Don't you want to sit closer?" I ask and they all stare straight ahead and shake their heads No. As I sit in the bench in front of them with Big Al, Brian leans over and says "Why? What's closer?" "A better view of Tarzan" I smile back. "If you want to see Tarzan what are you facing that way for?" I turn around, lower my sunglasses and give him my best "Puhhhleeeeeze!!!" look.
Tarzan finally leaps on stage and I turn back to find Lori's eyes as big as saucers! Brian begins questioning whether Tarzan prefers women or not--Who cares? I just want to use his chest as a pillow for a few moments.......and I begin to think maybe Big Al was right and we should have been late this morning.
The show ends and we head to Primevil Whirl-except for the Florida family-they head to Restaurantasaurus for breakfast. Steph wants to ride with "Auntie Annie and Uncle Alan" and I am soooo pleased. She sits between us on the ride and I think these are the moments I live for. To hear her pure laughter and see her face light up. She's my sister's daughter, but I couldn't love her more if she were my own-this is bliss!!! The ride ends with her screaming "I want to go again" and then something vibrates in my pocket....
....it's my cell phone. My Aunt, Cousin and Cousin's girlfriend just got off of Dinosaur and are waiting for us at the exit to Primevil Whirl. They were late getting to the park. Why didn't I think of that???????????
