Is mission space green side scary for a 6 year old?

This June my DH and I rode the green side (rode the orange a few years back and felt so sick...never again). Anyway..just before loading the capsule, a mother changed her mind (claustophobic) and checked with her daughter (about 8 or so) before letting her on alone. She was the third person in our vehicle. The little girl seemed a bit uneasy so I told her that the ride was "awesome" and not "scarey" at all. I also told her not to be nervous about pushing the buttons because the "computer" made sure that the vehicle did the right thing. At the end she was smiling and called it "really cool". I think that as long as you sit next to her and she hears you having a good time...she'll enjoy it.

i would say there is nothing different regarding a 'fear factor' between green or orange. it's all about one's ability to handle the physical effects of the centrifuge. you are not able to feel or detect that you are spinning.

I have had kids who had anxiety over the fact that they had to push the buttons to make the ride "work." They believed that if they screwed this up, something bad would happen. Gary Sinese makes the whole situation very believable and I think the kids forgot for a minute that it was a ride.

Yes this is what happened with us...my two 7 year old just went on it in Aug. and one was fine and other other felt under preasure to make the ride "work" by pushing the buttons. I could tell she did not like it at all. I did not think it was scary but very closed in and a child may not feel comfortable with that.

If you miss your opportunity to push the button, you will hear, "computer override". The fun thing about pushing the buttons, is that the moment you push (or when the computer overrides) you feel the capsule react. It's pretty cool. :smooth:

If you don't mind a spoiler, check it out.

We just got back from WDW with DS6. I think DW was more nervous than DS. We did green first and DS thought it was kind of boring. So we went right back and did orange and he loved it. He thought it was a bit short, but he really liked it.

As for DW and I, we did alright, but I certainly wouldn't do orange more than once in a day.

I rode the green side with my friend's 10 year old kid. We ended up being the only two in the capsule, and in the beginning, she started to freak out a bit. You are enclosed in a pretty small space and your movement is very limited by the restraint. I reminded her that it was fake and suggested that she close her eyes if she was scared. After "taking off", she calmed down and thought it was really cool.

The worse part about the ride is feeling like you are trapped in tight quarters. I felt pretty helpless when she started to panic. If I leaned my head forward, I could just see her face, but it is very difficult to comfort her and I was relieved when her anxiety dropped and she thought it was cool.

If you do not like small spaces, I would recommend staying off this ride. It, however, is a short ride so most probably can tolerate the green ride if it would make their child(ren) happy.

Good luck!

THIS! My youngest was 5 when he went and he LOVED IT. My oldest was 8 and also loved it (can we go again mom?!! Please!) I would never before this ride have ever considred myself clastrophic. matter of fact, I commented while we were in line to DH that geez... they have enough signs warning of the tight spaces... I think people have it by now. Then we got into our little box and the door shut I was like.. oh... ok? then the panel in front of us moved closer to us (you can't even lean your head out of the your "seat" really that much at all ~ Kind of makes sense though.. those little arms need to be able to reach the controls.) I was freaking out inside my head! I didn't want to scare my boys though, so I literally had to BREATHE my way thorough the ride (which thankfully is pretty short!) I can't say I really remember much of the ride... its hard to focus on the ride when you are practicing lamaze to get through it! :sad2: I AM NOT complaining, yes I saw all the signs warning of the tight spaces... I just never thought it would bother me I have been in tight situations before and never had any problems. DH said it was payback to me for mocking the signs evey foot or so in line! so yes, the kids LOVED it (Green side) and they have rode it several more times... but mommy only rode it once ;)

But Star Tours makes me nauseous. Mission Space doesn't. So even though they are both motion simulators, Mission Space is much more sophisticated and much less likely to make me feel ill. I don't bother with Star Tours anymore.

David

ITA about Star Tours... but actually, both have made me ill (and when I did MS it was the green side, so that really surprised me). DH is also very sensitive to motion and he said he felt exactly the same after both the orange and green versions - not so great.

I agree with PP who mentioned the claustrophobic feeling. I totally get that on MS.

Mission Space Green was wonderful! The green line more than tripled the orange line the day I was there. There is nothing scary, it's just enclosed in a small space. If your child cannot reach the panel to push the buttons when instructed, you can reach over and push the buttons, if you sit right next to your child. Its a fun ride!

My 7 year old loved it on our recent trip and wanted to go again and again. The good news is that the line for the green side is usually 5 minutes.

DS gets motion sickness. He didn't feel that great after we rode it this past June (green side). He said he was dizzy and his head hurt. It may have been the heat too! He also felt a little dizzy after the safari ride at AK. Maybe make it your last ride for the day.

Poor guy! I don't know any reason why the AK safari ride would make a person dizzy, so maybe the heat did get to him! :sunny::faint:

My DS was 6 the first time he rode. He and DH took the Green mission, I did orange (or wimpy...I don't remember the color)

DS loved it! He didn't think it was scary at all. Like a pp said, it depends on the child. My DS loved this, but was scared on space Mountain and Peter Pan! :rotfl:

Maybe you could try the orange one first, and if your daughter wants to try it, then move up to the green.

NO! :scared1:
Green is the less intense experience!
Orange is the full spinning, more intense side!

Sorry, DH was just saying the same thing!!!

So try GREEN first, then orange! Like I said, I don't remember the color, but the CM suggesting that I take the "wimpy" trip to Mars if I didn't want to wait for DS and DH at the end of the ride.
